A Gazelle Champion Mondial A Project
Forum member Sloar and I are going to work together to get this nice Gazelle frameset back on the road. I have spent the last month collecting decal sets from sources I'll talk about during the thread. I received a headbadge from the Netherlands just the other day, so it is time to box this up and send it to Indiana.
I have a very nice Campy Gran Sport gruppo here including a Record/Mavic wheelset. Probably bar ends as well, but I am not positive yet on that part.
But I don't want a totally period correct Gazelle. I am going to include modern bars from Nitto and likely a Portland Design Works fender set I picked up at our swap last month.
Likely a very bright, non-standard Gazelle color has been chosen, but that's ok.
I'll use a beautiful early 1970s Brooks Swallow and a nice mid-80s Carradice bag to top everything off.
Here are a few pics of the frameset I purchased from forum member Belg-Ital.
The goal is a nice summer "go to the lakes" rider.
Stay tuned for periodic updates.

Stay tune, I shall.
Nice distinctive Gazelle features (despite its disguise).
Did I hear 'orange' in another thread?

I thought about matching a standard Gazelle color from the era, but decided against it.
So orange it will be.
I have the correct Gazelle decals and the correct Reynolds decals as well.
I just shipped the frame to Sloar this evening, so he should have it in 3-4 days.
Our goal is to have it on the road by the end of spring.

There is a refinished Gios on our local CL that is itching for a little love.
I would buy it for our son, but he's too big.
A 6'2" 14 year old.
He can ride this Gazelle when it is finished.
It will be a fun loaner for my wife's relatives this summer.

A much better plan than the Fauxnago guise it's wearing now. And judging by Sloar's recent Ciocc, you'll be in for a great looking bicycle. Have fun building!

Do you have a line on a frameset?

I'm also still sorting out what I want to do with my current bikes. The tommasini and colnago will stay but the bianchi is in question. I'm thinking I want something smaller that can be used as a commuter or gravel bike. I thought I wanted a cross bike, but an older road frame with a clearance for say 30s might be good enough. It doesn't need to be a gios, but how fun would it be to see a bright gios that isn't blue?

I sometimes feel very constrained by the notion of period correct, so this one will have a foot in the modern world, but also will have the classic appeal of an older Campy system.
The last one I did with Sloar has turned into one of my favorite bicycles to buzz around town on.

I don't have a line on a framest big enough for me, but I've got a few colors in mind.

I can put the boys on the scent of a frameset for you.
They'll show up with three at $25 a pop.
