Seeking advice on potential purchase - 96' Ibis Mojo

Looking to the wise forumites for some input regarding the frame below:

From what I can tell it is a 1996 Ibis Mojo, going off of color and decals.

The asking price is $50, more than fair from what I understand as far as value.

How would this deserve to be built up? Fork recommendations? I might able to get a fork at the co-op..not sure what to look for. Maybe you have one to trade/sell

The seller also has some XTR v-brakes available and Dean stem I can purchase.

Might need fresh paint or powdercoat. I'll be sure to inspect the chain stay where there was chain stuck. Not sure why the crank is installed backwards

Any input is welcome..

Make sure that chain stay is OK. That bike also has the hand job cable hanger to not use that would be just wrong which means canti's not V's. Also check that seat clamping area. Is that a shim & why is the TCO so cruddy at the bottom. Lot's of decent forks out there depending on your size and intentions. Take your time there may be a good reason why it's $50. there are a million clean mountain bikes from this era to buy.

Looking at it tomorrow after work, the seller seems to be a nice older lady and wouldn't sell it before then.

I'm considering a rigid carbon fork or kona project 2.

I'll definitely look over the chain stay seat clamp area.

What is TCO?

Tall Cool One seat post. Also why is that tape on the top tube. I second the Marzocchi recommendation. A bomber would work as well.

Great eyes, doesn't help I'm unfamiliar with the brand. That tape is another thing to inspect closely.

A nice little old lady who only rode it to church on Sundays- over singletrack and mud.

I would pay $100 for that assuming no damage just to put it together as a rider, but then again, I collect old Mtn. bikes. The tape is on the TT to protect it from the handlebars from swinging around and creating a dent/scratch. The bike is too trashed to be worth restoring but will make a great rider. As stated above, those V brakes need to go and be replaced with some canti's to maximize the most unique part of the bike, the hand job. Is the head tube 1" or 1 1/8? looks 1" which means suspension fork options will be poor even if you find the highest zoot fork from bitd. I am guessing 95 or older with the canti mount.

Ha, I can just picture it!
The lady did provide some back story so far:

Agreed, it would make a great single track bike I can ride hard and not worry about abusing it.

Luckily I have some older Deore canti's on hand (no pun intended) I can use.

From the research I've done I think it is a '96 and should be a 1 1/8" head tube.

I think if you go to Bikepedia.com and look up the Mojo by year, you will find they switched from Canti to V in 96, meaning there wouldn't be a hand job on a 96 model. I might be wrong and I don't have time to do it myself right now but it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to look into. 1 1/8 head tube opens up plenty of options for suspension forks only limited by your wallet and the geometry of the frame.
