Skipping on 13 cog with new chain and new freewheel

Getting my "new" "Irish" bike set up and the Nuovo Record rear D might need some more tension. I can't think of any other reason for the chain to skip. I hesitate to wind it a whole turn tighter. Advice? If interested, it is on Flickr at redmanjohn and is public (along with a few of my other Motobecanes. The Masi is not mine but is for sale by a friend in Worcester, MA).

Cool bike - what model is it? European market?

Is the RD all cleaned and lubed? Derailleur hanger straight?

I had one do this once where the hanger was bent. I couldn't see it visually, but when I put the tool on it, it was bent.

It is a 1977 Motobecane Team Champion someone conveniently made emerald green for me. Thanks, I'll eyeball the hanger. I've measured the chain, the FW is brand new and it also skipped on the one I replaced, also on the 13 cog. It skips worse on the 53 ring but still some on the 43.

Limit screw not letting the derailleur come out far enough? (assuming the 13t is the smallest cog...)

Indexed? If so, try the barrel adjuster at the RD cable end. However it appears to be friction.

+1 on a slightly bent hanger.
Check for tight chain links.

Nice! I have a '78. Yours must be 753 tubing then, eh? I think that was the only year they did that.

Are the jockey wheel bearings in good shape and lubed? What chain are you using? I had a problem with a Campy C-9 chain climbing the teeth because it was slightly too narrow on the inside of the links. Any good quality modern 6-7-8 speed chain works for me with the Campy NR RD. I've also heard of skipping problems going away when the new chain is washed of the new factory grease and relubed with something lighter.
