Stafford Cycles - Anyone heard of?

I purchased a bike this weekend that has "Stafford Cycles" on the downtube. Seller told me that Mr. Stafford built bikes for the Pan Am games and later went out on his own. Does anyone have any information about this builder? Some pics are attached. Interesting seat stay cluster, lug cutouts, and dropouts. Based on components, appears to be made in or about 1972. Takes a 27.0 seatpost. I would appreciate any information you can provide. Regards.

Thanks. It does appear to be a quality frame. It came equipped with Campy Nuovo Record. I just cannot seem to find any information about it on the internet.

Cool rear dropout!

Probably a backyard type of operation which never go to the levels of business that history records on the internet. :/

Interesting. I believe I have a Stafford as well and I'm looking for info on it. I was thinking it is French?

Got it from a friends Aunts attic. Appears to be a backyard paint job on mine and Stafford looks hand painted so wasn't sure what to make of it. Its a mix of components, newer 105 RD, stronglight cranks, but the lugs look the same. I'm going from memory but will look when I get home tonight but are the lugs BCM? I've got a serial number stamped on the bottome bracket too.

I'm new to old bikes.

Sweet. I will check my serial number and lugs. Mine had "Stafford Cycles" in separate letter decals on downtube. I thought mine was British. About to get crank off in next day or two and will check BB threading. Post some pics when you get a chance. Thanks for reaching out.

Just checked mine. No BCM lugs. Dropouts are Shimano and BB has British threading. Couldn't find serial number. Let me know what yours looks like. Thanks!

Well i completely misspoke and got your hopes up. My bike lugs look similar to yours but are not the same after getting a better look at them last night. Also the sticker in my memory said Stafford but actually says, Earhardt?

Back to square 1.

Is it possible the Stafford is just a shop and the frame was made by someone else on contract and they just plastered the shop name on the frame?

That is possible, but previous owner seemed to believe Mr. Stafford was the builder.
