Zeus 2000 Coloured Components

in 1980 Zeus began offering the 2000 series parts in coloured anodising. in some of the earliest adverts for this series parts were shown with a copper coloured anodising in addition to the more commonly seen black and gold colours.

asked about this of the folks at Zeus Cyclery Corporation in NYC and they said the copper was an early idea which never got into production. would like to ask the forum's Arregui experts if they ever saw copper coloured parts offered for sale or in person anywhere.

here is an advert which shows the black and gold colours. have not been able to find the advert i recall which also showed parts in copper colour. it ran in full page & full colour in an american cycling magazine for a number of months, perhaps a year.

thank you for any information.

I did have one front DR got out of a junk pile super light and just ok functionaly that I sold on Ebay for an outraouges price a while back that was chrome with darker coppertone body bars details. I have come across a couple of others at bike shows for silly high prices. So yes they do exist it seems as you think they where only sold for about a year or two then Zeus went mostly heavy black which is much less likely to fade. While likely even rarier I have seen some red and blue Zues stuff. It seems most manufactueres experitmented with coloured aniodized componets around this time and becouse off cost and fading issues they where mostely dropped. Yet if you come across nice examples the Ebay prices can be just insane.

I've never seen the "copper" color, and I agree the gold has a propensity to fade. My black ring is holding up well, though.

wrt colours:

the gold in the advert i posted looks "gold" but many of the gold Zeus parts i have seen have a rather sickly greenish cast going in the direction of bronze. one of those unsatisfying "tweener" colours.

iirc Zeus called the copper colour "doral."

thank you for the responses.

Guys, can any of you explain me what ,,anodising" or ,,aniodized" actually means? I searched on a dictionary and I found nothing. Thanks!

Thank you. English is not my native language, and because i was not able to find it in 2 dictionaries I assumed it was a slang or a too technical word.

Zeus matter . The reason I entered this forum is the fact that I am doing a research regarding my Zeus bike,or at least I hope it is. Most of the people told me it is and the frame is Columbus. The other days I asked Columbus company if it is possible to track down the year of fabrication by using the serial number of the frame. They told me that Columbus collaborated with Zeus, but actually they never gave already done frames, they only gave the tubes and Zeus was the one manufacturing them... Does someone know something related to this matter? How can I actually know that my frame is a Columbus, or Zeus, or whatever? I ask this because I saw the post and Zukahn 1 seems to know some history about Zeus. Any info would help me, I`ll be waiting.

after a certain date the zeus frames were made by razesa. do not recall seeing any columbus zeus built frames but others readers may know more. the fact that the frame is columbus would tend to make me think it built by razesa. you have not mentioned a date for the frame in question.
