Colnago C40 bottom bracket material and threading?
I was out riding early this morning with a couple guys. One of them was riding a Colnago C40 (loaner from the other guy). I noticed some clunking when he pedaled. I pointed it out in an email later (too dark to see and hurrying to get in the morning ride, so I failed to mention it during the ride). I'm not familiar with this bike, but given that it's a 'nago, I figured it probably has an Italian threaded bottom bracket and his fixed cup is coming loose. Again, because of the darkness, I don't know exactly what his bb setup is.
What's the bottom bracket material on these frames (this one dates from 2002)? Will it be Italian threaded?
Thx...

Ummmm think you should post this in the bike mechanics section. 2002 is too new to know anything! It is only 12 years old. We only know about stuff that is 20 years old or older!

What kind of Crankset? Campagnolo Ultra Torque is a two piece with a lock bolt holding the crank shaft's together. Sometimes will work loose, a 10 mm hex long socket will fit in side the crank opening to tighten. If a square tapered, the cups maybe loose and have to be tighten.

Because it was dark (we left at 5:45, parted company about 30 minutes later as I turned off and they headed off in search for more mileage), I didn't get a good look at how the bike was equipped, and it wasn't until we got going that I heard anything. I was watching it for awhile after noticing the noise, and don't think it had outboard cups like you'd see on Ultra Torque cranks. I'll try and get a closer look in the next day or two. All my bikes have plain old square taper cranks, and the sound was reminiscent of when I've had an Italian threaded fixed cup loosen.
The bike was a "loaner" from the other guy (nice loaner bike!), as the guy riding it was just in town for work. The owner said he hasn't had it serviced in awhile. I doubt it gets ridden a lot these days.

Banned.

Put it in a stand and see if anything is obviously loose. If not, prepare yourself for a long process. If not my bike, I would just inform the owner that things don't sound right, and let him proceed.
