Beautiful!!! Very Unique Lejeune
I was fooling around on this Velo Ciao site, Gios Super Record Model II (1978) | velociao that is a link in the Gios restore thread. Lots of beautiful bikes but this took my breath away. This 'cross machine is stunning.

That's one way to think about it. The other is that with a repaint it wouldn't be so ugly.

No one cares
vintage looking cross bikes aren't really that common actually. That said I had a Guerciotti that looked similar to this (minus the ugly paint) however it could barely fit 28's, so I sold it to #fender1 , who sold it because it barely fit 28's.

That's what makes it unique. It's period correct. If it had a solid color or something similar it would be just like every other bike.
As did this near mint old Sekine MR300...
But of all the bikes that I have been lucky enough to own, this Tommasini, in my opinion, had the worst paint job and it was the paint that caused me to sell the bike...
All that said, I would love to have such a bicycle, just the way it is. The bike is a beauty and, for what it is worth, I am a LeJeune fan, to say the least.

No one cares
I'm sure it was meant for tubulars (and no, it was a purpose built cross bike). That said I don't know how that accounts for lack of clearance. They just wanted to keep a tighter race geometry and didn't use larger tires like we do today. That would be my guess.

If unique means one of a kind, then this is exactly one of a kind, and there are no others.
So very unique must mean that there is not merely 1.0 of a kind but actually 1.0000000 of a kind.
