I know nothing about them, a fellow forum member has aquired this steel Bianchi as wondering about its year and model. If any of you folks know what it is, he'd appreciate any information. Thanks in advance!

Looks like a repaint on a mid to late 80s bike - maybe just the lugs and fork crown. Nice color combo.

Could be one of the Japanese made frames - seat stay caps and serial number location on the seat tube.

Bianchi Girl will probably chime in, she's one of the resident Bianchi-istas...

Thank you for your vote of confidence. Assuming the decal are correct and only the lugs have been changed to protect the innocent, it is a '87 Sport SX, Tange DB main tubes and mangalloy stays. OEM kit was Suntour Alpha 5000 with dark anodized Araya rims. It is a nice riding frame set.

I am not going to challenge BG's assessment, but if you want to prove it's a Japanese Bianchi, measure the BB shell width and/or look at the BB cup threading. 68mm with 1.375" x 24 TPI = ISO/Japanese, whereas 70mm with 36mm x 24 TPI = Italian.
