HAHA! It's why you come here, right?

Thanks for the comments guys. It was definitely a fun build and real blast to ride. It definitely fits the verb "bombing" downhill! It feels like a rock dropping from a cliff on a steep descent.

Nice ride! FWIW, I would put a mudflap on that front fender to keep the winter crud off of the drive train and bottom bracket!

Beautiful, I also agree about the mud flat. it it is often wet those tires are a great and yes they are good ice tires, but they suck in the snow. The knob pattern is way too dense, but you probably live in a lot more densely populate place so maybe loose fresh snow isn't such a problem. I hope you're having fun with it.

Thanks for the reminder, I hadn't thought about the flap yet! Yeah, DC gets deep snow from time to time, but mostly it's the re-frozen remains the following week to 2 weeks that is the issue for us. Seems to take forever for the ice sheets to disappear here.

Vintage MTBs are like Lays potato chips. You can't have just one. 29ers and 650B might perform better than a vintage ride. But they totally lack the cool factor.

Super nice! Love the studded tires - they would come in handy here to occasionally

Thanks DG. This is my first year using them; I've always gone indoors when the ice shows itself, but this year I committed to year-round bike commuting. Since August I think I've only taken the car maybe 6 times, and that because I had to wear a full suit.

Big thumbs up on the studs, they definitely add scads of confidence when things freeze over. We've had plenty of sketchy ice this week, everything from thick, polished ice to black invisible ice. This bike has yet to fail me on such scary surfaces...but maybe her weight helps too. Tips the scales at 37.8 lbs or 17.14 kilos. Definitely NOT a lightweight!

I've always liked those "turbine"-style cranks.

I was curious if you used a 27.0mm crown race, if that's something that CK sells.

Great looking bike.

It's just a standard 1 incher, but now that I know the weight loaded on that front end I'm hoping the CK will stand up to the abuse. This thing is a tank. Loveable, but a tank.
