Going all leather

Having come to appreciate the comfort of the leather saddles I have had for a while on my classic Schwinn Paramount (first an old beat up Japanese knockoff of a Brooks Pro last year replaced with an actual Brooks Pro), I acquired some months ago a leather saddle for my commuter. For the commuter, I went with. Selle Anatomica because the longer rails worked better with the seatpost I had. This Christmas I ask for and received from Santa a new Brooks Swift for my Cannondale CAAD7 to replace the modern plastic saddle I had on that. I went with Swift because I thought it would work better with the more aggressive setup of my C'dale, which I use mostly for fast weekend group rides -- first ride pending so we will see how it compares to the others. It's not that I found the plastic saddle uncomfortable, but it just paled in comparison to the leather saddles I have on my other bikes. Besides, since CAAD7 is almost a classic at this point, I figured it works. (See pick, SA in front, then Pro and Swift against the wall. I find I need to set the Brooks saddles somewhat nose up but the Selle level -- the angle of the pic exaggerates the degree of tilt on the Brookses, They are only slightly tilted).

For comparison sake:

Brooks Pro: 160mm wide with about 130mm useful width (i.e surface of saddle inside the cantle underneath). Useful rail length for setback adjustment = 65mm
Brooks Swift: 150mm wide with about 120mm useful width. 75mm adjustable rail length
Selle Anatomica: 175mm with 140mm of useful width. 90mm adjustable rail length.

Asside from a few a$$hachets, my posterior accepts a variety of saddles that aren't too wide.
I move around a lot on my saddle so the longer ones are preferred. I also get out of the saddle regularly on most rides.
My rides are typically 30 miles (2 hrs) or less, so saddles have become less of a concern for me as I age.
The trouble I find with leather is that it gives only 1 comfortable position.

I have.

Swift is still a better saddle for me.

FWIW I still prefer a Regal to a Cambium as well.

Brooks Pro for me, but YMMV.

Although I love the comfort of leather, I also really love the look. Cambium lacks a aesthetic appeal so I will pass until such time as my leather choices don't feel so good.

I was exactly where you are. To me, the look of the 70s and 80s Avocet style saddles was the cat's pyjamas. The B17 look was a step up from that. When I FINALLY got around to getting a B17, I was amazed at what I had been missing- I'd read a bunch of stuff about the Cambium (specifically the blog of a forum member here), so I threw down on that. I agree, it doesn't have that look. I tried to be critical about the feel- but I REALLY like it, and now the look has grown on me.

I'm with you on the Cambium. I love the look and feel of leather, and my initial reaction to the look of the Cambium was "meh." But the feel works great for me, and I've got a Cambium C17 mounted to both of my modern bikes. Brooks Pro on nearly all of my vintage bikes, though.
