198? Vintage Bianchi - need help identifying model/year
Just picked up a Celeste Bianchi - pretty bike and would like to know what I have.
Details:
Frame - Bianchi Special Columbus
Fork is had "Bianchi" embossed on the crown with two stripes
Seatstay has a letter "B" with a circle embossed
Serial Number: 2D12397
Shimano 600 brakes
Campy Nuovo Record Derailleurs
Ambrosio Wheels
Bianchi embossed on the crank arm
Ofmego Hubs
Cosmos Handlebar
Reno Fluted Seat post
Stem has no markings
Black Suede seat
I came with the matching Celeste pump. Any information about year and model would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Capt Kelso you know better than this, just where are the pics?
Sounds like an '85 Nuovo Alloro with some parts, brakes, seatpin, bar/stem, switched out.

Pics on the way.....just brought her home. A quick search didn't show many Bianchis with Shimano 600 brakes......so in your opinion......they are not original.

The 600 brakes would make a reasonable upgrade from the stock Modolo especially if you wanted a nice aero levers.

Thanks - It has Gipiemme dropouts and the crank is campy. The 600's are non-aero! Since I'm going to strip and clean, would you suggest going with Campy Nuovo brakes over the 600's? Were the modolo's the original brakes? Going to try and post pics this afternoon.

I bet you a can of Tomato soup they are Ofmega cranks. Usually the Bianchi branded one were.
The OEM brakes would have been Modolo Americas. You didn't specify calipers or levers so I thought both were changed and assumed aero. If the 600s work I would not go crazy trying to upgrade to the NR brakes as it would not equally improve the value of the bike.
Like I tell everyone, not that I always take my own advise, overhaul and clean it then ride it before making any changes. If you don't like it for some reason you haven't invested a tonne of money that you may not get back.
