Was given a Bianchi, please help me identify it
Hello!
Was recently given a Bianchi that had been sitting in a shed for quite some time. I have just glued on new tubes and cleaned it up a little bit but I plan to do more as funds allow. I got really curious about what model it is and what year it could have been manufactured. I would really appreciate any help!
The Campagnolo parts are market Super Record if marked.

No idea of model, but it looks like a very nice mid-70's Bianchi, with first generation Super Record components. Nice bike.

Welcome to C&V! Can't help with the model, but that sure is a nice gift! Thanks for sharing it. I, for one, would not mind a few more pics.

Welcome!! beautiful Bianchi!! I agree would love to see more pics. My catalogs only go back to '80 and I think this may be a tad earlier. There may be a Paten date on the rear derailleur (gear changer) where it bolts to the frame.
The Chromed fork crown and cutout brakes and shifters sure mark it as top of the line Bianchi, something like a Tipo Corsa or a Campione del Mondo for sure.

Incredible find. That rear derailleur is a grail piece for me and worth a mint. A bianchi of that vintage and quality is a pretty desirable and valuable machine.
Record equipped bianchis were often called the Specialissima model. I would guess you have a mid to late 1970s Specialissima.

Too tall for me, but still beautiful. Love the Celeste bikes.

I just want to know why I wasn't given a Bianchi? Great looking bike, by the way! Welcome to the forum. Stick around and get an addiction for old steel.

Thanks for the warm wellcome and the responsens!
Wow, I kind of new that this was a good bike when I tried it out. As a total novice in this regard I just glued on new tubes (learning from YouTube and forums) and took it out for a spinn - it runs incredible smooth and I am definitly bitten by the Bianchi bug by now. After three 26km rides I just want more. But I could not fathom that it was such a gem! This makes me even more motivated to fix it up, there is some rust that I really like to get rid of etc.
I will try to take some more photos today. Any specific photos you would like? I have found no dates on it so far.
Cheers,
John

According to Velobase, that derailleur was made 1974-9:
VeloBase.com - Component: Campagnolo 4001, Super Record (1st Generation)
The date will be found at the top, where it mounts to the frame:
It looks like some of the components, such as the brake calipers and shifters, maybe the seat post, have been milled out a bit. That was done, ostensibly to reduce weight, but really more of a style thing. I'd like to see better photos of that.

Thanks for the heads up, going to check on the bearings tomorrow - its good to have a dad that grew up working in a bike shop.
Regarding the derailleur I found the date, its -78.
No more photos yet, the day did not turn out as planned. I hope to get an opportunity this weekend instead.

A source told me he is pretty sure this is '78 Specialissima model although it could easily be a '79. There are some things he would not expect on a '78 that appear on this but also things he would not expect on a '79 that are on this.
Where is this bike? Europe somewhere? that would answer a few questions.
I would not be surprised if the frame was built during the model year and but the bike was built as a 79.

This is intriguing A quick browse on the net gives me the feeling that it is something between the '78 and '79 as you say. The photos seems just right until some details are of. I will take more photos as soon as possible!
The handlebar stem is a 3TTT, the handlebars are marked Cinelli. The saddle is a no-name later replacement.
The bike is in Europe, in Sweden.

So, I got some photos taken today. I am a bit embarrassed that the bike is still so dirty, it is nothing compared to how it looked when I got it and I am working on it as much as I have time for, but still. I have changed the pedals, the originals had no to clip and strap and one of the pedal caps was missing as well - I did not want to get dirt in there and at the same time I needed bike shoes and got a good deal on shoes and pedals. I am going to restore them as well later on, I like to have it "complete".
Well, it could have been like that but it was not. Sometimes people get stuff out due to being there and helping out when nobody else does.

I think most folks assessments are pretty close here. Closeup of front derailleur shows the CPSC lip so 1978 or later. The large chain ring shows the CPSC pin, but it is mounted wrong. The pin should be behind the crank arm. The brakes don't show the 1978 CPSC modification so they are likely earlier. All the milling is stock Bianchi stuff that usually shows up on the Super Leggera or Super Corsa. The black painted top tube cable braze-ons were usually also only seen on the Super Leggera or Super Corsa. Bianchi started doing braze on cable eyelets on the top tube in the mid-late 70s so pretty much everything points to a late 70s, high end model Bianchi.
