I remember the Columbia small wheeled 10 speeds in the 70's that had denim seats.

The cover was cut from a used pair of Levi jeans, that were collected at a Levi's Store in San Francisco and at the Brooks Shop in London. They have been re-cycled (sic) and the customer pays a premium for a semi used product. If you look on ebay and at the Brook's website, each Denim C17 pictured has a different look.

Mike you are kind NOT to think of me! You might be surprised, I've dropped a few pounds since I last saw you. I was probably a 44 waist then (peaked at a 48) and now I'm a 36.

No, I meant that

It's a portmanteau of Brooks and Regal, since the Brooks model looks so much like the Regal in shape and style (big rivets!).

I remember that (or something like that) from the late 70s- retranslated so the hip youth of today could relate.

"And JC and his family went down to the river and spread the word of peace and love..."

(that's only a comment on what I remember about the retranslation, not the book or anything associated with the book)

I was surprised, and delighted, to find bag loops on my cambium.

Hopefully I'll get a look at that saddle this spring on Cape Cod, PB. Looks great in the pictures and I've got something on the stand that's perfect for one!

Very cool! I'm gonna have to think about this. Not sure I have a bike that it would look good on, but on the right bike it might be really sharp.

Unfortunately (haha) I'll be in FL when the CCRT ride takes place. I'll do my best to organize a group ride here in NH this summer.

Dang, I might just have to cut it loose from the inner cardboard holder and mount it on the Paramount to see how it looks! Let me see if I can find a spare 27.2mm seat post.

Turned out I had a spare Campagnolo seatpost to use to mount the Denim C17 upon and then try it on my '71 Paramount.

Not really dark enough to match the bag and bar tape, but close enough to the cable housing.

Enjoy the snow! The pile at the end of the driveway (just above the saddle) is about 8 feet high.

Skinny boy jeans?

Scott, that is the truth. Hadn't thought about it that way. The C17 wears jeans like my daughter wears jeans, poured into them. I never wore them that way and still don't. I like plenty of room in the leg and seat.

So, what's your opinion of a blue denim rubber saddle on a '71 Paramount? Come on folks, I have a thick skin and can handle the comments! Maybe a before and after to help in the analysis (I know it should be wearing a Professional)?

With the B5N:

I like the saddle, just not on a vintage red Paramount. IMHO it would look great on a newer frame with white or dark blue paint.

After working in a jeans store, while in college, in the 1970's a got burned out on blue denim. At the time, with my employee discount, most of my clothes were blue denim. After that stint I ditched all blue denim. Currently the only denim item I own is a pair of black jeans. Personally, I'm still not ready for a blue denim seat

You should cut up an old pair of jeans and make some denim bar wrap. The bars must match the saddle and all that. And I think it could look cool.

I'm basically in agreement. It does not work on the Paramount. And that's okay because I didn't expect it to.

I have a "more" modern '93 Cannondale 2.8 R600 that it might look better on. It's blue and if I changed the bar tape to a close match, it could be a blue two tone.

Brooks does make Cambium bar tape in the four normal colors, natural, rust, slate and black, but not in denim. I'll check my supply on old jeans to see if DIY denim wrap is an option. Or I might have to stop by the thrift shop.

As someone who owned a Pinto

and a Gremlin (but not the denim version) as well as a Lambert with a "death fork"

I guess I might be pressing my luck with a Viscount restoration project I just completed.

And yes, the Viscount has the "death fork" as well

Forgive my morning grouchyness, but I could give a **** if my seat matches my bar tape matches my cable housing. It's a bicycle! I think it looks fine on the Paramount; surely it will darken with age. My original thoughts on the denim cover are "Will it hold up as well as whatever is on the other cambiums? I guess now we have a scientific test in progress.

I bet it fades with age, as is denim's wont. I never had a pair of jeans that got darker over time.

Very true! Except when you wear them in the shop and they get covered with old grease!

I've been doing some research for a best way to match the bar tape without buying several different shades of blue online only to find out none of them work.

Fabric stores sell denim bias tape in various shades. It comes in 1/2" and wider sizes. If I can find a 1" or 1& 1/4" that might work. I'd probably do it over top of existing foam tape in order to still have a bit of cushion. I'd spray it down with Scotch Guard to help with water and stain proofing.

Any advice from our sewing experts would be much appreciated. Hope to head to Joann's Fabrics later this week with the saddle in hand for a close match.

This saddle won't match anything on any bike, so don't even bother trying. I think it looked fine on the Paramount, and it will look fine on the Cannondale.

Unless our pastor is willing to pull a St. Martin and divide his cloak... err, jeans, with his sword and give half of it to a beggar and use the other half as bar tape

That saddle must NOT be mounted on a 1960s, 1970s or a 1990s bike.

It's not natural fade, and it's not acid rinse, it's Stonewash, and to maintain period correctness, must only be mounted on an 80s bike.
