Chris accepted my friend request on FB. He certainly seems to legitimately be Eric's brother... Unless he went to the trouble of setting up a fake Facebook profile with a fake wife with a fake Facebook profile and fake kids, at least one of whom also has a fake Facebook profile. At this point, I'm going with Chites and RHites as real relatives and Eric Hites as a scam artist who is about to get caught because he's in WAY too deep with this one to get out of it. Or he mans up and does the right thing, or at least puts forth an honest attempt.

It doesn't matter - the phone will track your path and upload next time you're in range of a signal. Totally sufficient for what he's doing.

You're so bad... he only brought 4 lbs of jerky. And that was two months ago!

It's a short window to pull for the guy. If it turns out this is an intentional scam then I wish him poorly. Until then I consider him another lost human who has a history of self-destruction as well as destruction of things around him. I work with groups of people who are overweight and not healthy. The behaviors are not common, but not very rare either.

We don't have a sister. I think you got confused by the caption on the GFM link. However, he wouldn't be above fabricating one if he needed to. That post was just an attempt to show how kindhearted he was and garner more attention and funds for himself. It's typical Eric behavior.

One of his devoted followers has commented with a wink that he and his bride don't need to ride today, they'll get plenty of exercise tonight. Well, I'm no engineer, but I know them both and it would take at least two feet of equipment to accomplish that feat. So suffice to say they should be fresh and ready to go when they roll out of bed (a hotel bed I'm sure, no way she is going to stay in that tent) at noonish.

You know, one of the saddest parts here is actually the state of the family relationship. No matter the veracity of the statements, having my own brother go on the internet, trying to "bring me down", I mean, man...

I am genuinely curious how you explain this part of your initial post. The wife has indeed arrived today, complete with selfie posted on the FB page. How does this fit with your statement that she is engaged to another man?

Strava & RidewithGPS will generally work without cell access for Iphone and most Androind smart phones as they rely on the GPS/GLONASS chip which communicates with those systems independently of the cellular signal.

One would need wifi or cell service to upload but recording is no problem.

Thanks for the laugh!

If he ever comes to Philly I am going to do everything in my power to find him if I am in town.

The Pope is coming to town the weekend of 9/25. Maybe they can enjoy a plate of wings together and then the Pope can bless his journey. I will be leaving town the day before his holiness is scheduled to arrive and won't be coming back until he's gone. Will probably drive to a state park a few hours outside of town, camp and do day rides.

His name is Markus Rapier. He was in attendance at her going away party a few days ago according to her facebook posts. He was even in a couple of photos with her and tagged in them no less. After all the things people have pointed out about this hoax, I'm surprised no one has figured out that Angie is the female version of Eric. The new guy knows she's not going to cheat, I have already pointed out the logistical impossibility of that. Let her go and get her little taste of celebrity, she'll be back. If I could make this ridiculous story up, I'd be writing best sellers not working 70 hours a week in a factory.

Chites, sorry dude, but that sounds totally implausible. No guy would have his fiancee go on a weeks-long bike ride with her ex-husband. Especially if the supposed ex-husband refers to her as his wife everywhere.

Your story doesn't add up, Chites.

I enjoy reading that people are happy that he is getting his cardio up to snuff before he starts his trip or getting rest from his summer cold. They also get really angry when anyone suggests he is not being truthful or if he should HTFU.

Shouldn't he have been in shape before this whole thing started? Or at least working on that part, he would have taco'd his wheels at home instead of half way across the country. I guess you can fool enough people all of the time to make it worth a few bucks to you.

Cycling long distances is not easy, even when you train for it.

Haven't read through the whole 19 pages -- think I skipped pages 6 - 16...

But if he is collecting all this money, I would think the IRS would want a piece of this action. I doubt very much that he is a certified non-profit so all those donations (including bikes, meals, lodging etc) would all be considered taxable income.

OK, the only way I can possibly make sense out of this is, Angie walks out on Eric, maybe out of spite hooks up with Mark. Eric tries to win her back by doing the cross-country thing, she's impressed and goes back to Eric.

What a soap opera.

It also seems that Angie's FB either only came into creation in July, OR she has hidden / deleted everything before that because it may make the story fall apart.

Would not they be considered non-taxable gifts?
