I mean, maybe the brother/SIL have some family issues with him and took to the internet to try to discredit him? Or - maybe everything they said about him is true, and this is truly his attempt to try and change his life? I don't think that just because two people say he's a fraud should automatically mean he is.

That being said, no updates at all during a day? I can't imagine that's acceptable.

That's why I too agree that it would have been better for Eric to do this thing alone for some time. It's virtually impossible to change your lifestyle when your partner doesn't do so as well.
If you're referring to the pulled-pork sandwich the Mrs had, I would agree if they are not exercising but last summer I rode back-to-back centuries (miles) and one evening before I ate spaghetti/meatballs and the next the biggest '5 Guys' burger I could find. I dont normally eat like that but the body needs protein and carbs for such an endeavor. Erics/Wifes 10 miles were as difficult (to new riders) as my 100 miles Im sure.

Hes a big guy - my first ever ride was 2 miles when I was 315 lbs and it felt worse than the 100 miles last year. Cycling in the early days is tough on the body.

Hi. New here. Admittingly, I found this forum only because of this thread. I started out really backing him, but the glitz of it all is quickly fading for me. I've fallen off of the FB page and am just focusing on my own health and weight loss instead of following him.

I will post a picture of this map though. It was posted on the fit FB page.

Not much else to really add to the FGAA discussion, but I'm glad I found the forum as a whole. Off to peruse your other topics now.

I agree.

Eric has gone through a lot of effort to put himself in the spotlight, the least he can do is provide updates. It is at least being open, even if the update is, "This is going to take some time, after 10 miles yesterday, we need to recover today."

And as far as the big announcement that his wife mentioned... I really hope they aren't arranging a press conference or something... In this age, informing the people already following you is more important than another similar media blurb.

By the way, when his wife posted the Saturday mileage, with everything they are hauling, why can't they stop by any big box or bike shop and get a $10 odometer instead of reporting that she thought they went about 10 miles.

I'm sorry but that's just not true at all. A 10 mile ride for someone his size that's barely pedaling is burning, at most, 500 calories, maybe 1,000 if he keeps a decent cadence (doubtful). Cole slaw, pulled pork lathered in BBQ sauce, sugar drinks, processed garbage burger buns, French fries, and copious amounts of ketchup are going to do one thing and one thing only - add more weight to his frame. He is in horrible shape and, as many of us have pointed out time and time again, seems to not understand just how important changing his diet is to being successful not only at "biking across America" but also not dying at 45. That he has a "Beach Body" coach is really bizarre and concerning and is just another example in the long line of examples of just how half-assed this whole "adventure" is for him.

When I was his size doing anything physical was painful so I reached out to him early on to give him words of advice and encouragement but he ignored it. He's not burning 10,000 calories a day biking 5-10 miles and that people seem to think he is and that him keeping a diet of nothing but sugar, salt, and fat (and smoking) is ok because he's "amazing" and "riding a lot" is not only wrong but dangerous.

WOOO HOOO!

For the win!

Congrats!
Welcome!

Please feel free to ask open threads to ask questions, seek consolation when helpful, or the most fun ones, to let us know your accomplishments.

Many seem to dismiss their personal accomplishments, not realizing that the biggest most marvelous ones are the first time out, first rides, and then all those progress points. First 1,2,5 mile rides!

You'd be surprised at how often your communications help others!

I feel confident in speculating that no right minded person on this planet is watching this guy and thinking he is part of the "cycling community." Most rational people would look at him and assume that if he were part of the cycling community he would NOT be in as bad of shape as he is in. Constantly berating someone who is possibly trying to change his life is what will make the cycling community look bad.

Being cautious is fine. Calling out inconsistencies is fine. But even when the guy finally gets on his bike and rides it, he and his "wife," and post videos he still gets called a liar. Was it CGI? If he is the low life some folks claim he is, he will out himself soon enough.
Well... the video only shows him going down the sidewalk a few hundred feet.. first and foremost... They NEED to get off the sidewalk!!! They need to ride in the road where they belong! And it's amazing the number of people that people 20 seconds of video proves he is actually riding... ok, technically he rode his bike, but 100 feet is a far cry from 10 miles... Not saying they didn't ride 10 miles, but 20 seconds of video doesn't prove they did... Do I want to see a full length video of their 10 mile ride? No. But why not put the ride up on Strava? Could a Strava ride be faked? Absolutely. But I feel it would be a lot more beneficial than the 20 second video... plus a Strava account would allow him to track his progress from a fitness stand point...

Also, I keep reading about changing his lifestyle... personally I really don't see the change other than he's now riding a bike. Not sure they are making the best dietary choices... did I read he is still smoking? Also, like I tell everyone that asks me about my big weight loss... You get your eating under control for weight loss and you cycle for fitness... You simply can not pedal yourself healthy... there a lot of other things that go along with it...

I try not to berate him... so far I've just pointed out the "inconsistencies"... and my personal opinion is that they may not be low life scam artist... but I do think they are way more interested in the media circus they created and possible making some money vs an actual lifestyle change and bringing awareness to the problem of obesity...

Welcome!

Does that map you linked to highlight the states that they may potentially ride through, or is it something derived from a plan they have stated. Other than a stop in Philadelphia, and Indiana, I don't recall anything else being mentioned.

Okay I'm sorry but this thread is just getting too many reports and complaints and is taking up too much of moderator time. I have two moderators who are constantly watching this thread when they could be actually enjoying the forum themselves. People are insulting others and if we issued as many infractions that we are supposed to then a lot of people here would have been banned. But I don't want that to happen.

Thanks for playing.
