I enjoy reading that people are happy that he is getting his cardio up to snuff before he starts his trip or getting rest from his summer cold. They also get really angry when anyone suggests he is not being truthful or if he should HTFU.
Shouldn't he have been in shape before this whole thing started? Or at least working on that part, he would have taco'd his wheels at home instead of half way across the country. I guess you can fool enough people all of the time to make it worth a few bucks to you.
Cycling long distances is not easy, even when you train for it.

He started upon this somewhat suddenly so it wasn't a "Hey in a few months I'm going to ..." it was more "I'm going to do this right now to prove...."

Look, you still don't get it. It wasn't out of spite. That's the SECOND guy after she threw Eric out. $10,000 is more than he has made in any calendar year, ever. To them, this is a fortune. Compound that with the internet celebrity status and she wants in on the action. She's there until a) the money is gone b)he gets outed as a fraud or c)the story dies and no one cares any more. This is not reconciliation. She is HIM!

One of his devoted followers has commented with a wink that he and his bride don't need to ride today, they'll get plenty of exercise tonight. Well, I'm no engineer, but I know them both and it would take at least two feet of equipment to accomplish that feat. So suffice to say they should be fresh and ready to go when they roll out of bed (a hotel bed I'm sure, no way she is going to stay in that tent) at noonish.
Thank you.

Engagement ring she received from Marcus Rapier while separated for the last year from Eric.

Though I see everything you are writing and the evidence is there, I'm still hopeful.
I can be that way as I have not donated anything.

I'm only picking on this one post. There have been a couple more through this soap opera of a thread that have caused me to raise an eyebrow too, though. This is still the Clyde/Athena forum. The overwhelming majority of us are here because we aren't at our "fighting" weight. May I respectfully request, of everyone (not just Chites in this one post), that we respect the journey that we're all on and not take cheap-shots at conditions of general obesity? This thread is the most cynical, nasty and negative thread that we've had in C/A for a very long time (but it's well earned, I think), but the overall tone of the C/A forum needs to remain supportive of those NOT trying to scam the American public.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

If he makes it to Philly and you don't buy him a new two pound bag of jerky I'll be very disappointed. Come to think of it, you could start a whole jerky replenishment gofundme page and fill that trailer!

The worst part, to me, is how he's going to make us Clydes/Athenas look like scammers or jokes by the time he's done.

I've said it in this thread before, there are people here and now doing things to improve themselves. Get some of the stories here of those working on themselves, they are way more inspirational that this guy.

It is a grey area:
From Investment News article on Crowd Funding:
Where the picture gets murky as to whether received funds are a gift or income is when an entrepreneur is soliciting donations to supplement his or her livelihood. An auditor for the IRS could very well deem the money to be income.

For the guy on here that keeps questioning if Chites on here is really Erics brother and if Eric even has a brother? Here! Don't know how else to prove it. A wedding photo that clearly states,"My brother Chris". A photo also of Eric with Chris standing next to him, with our son. Compare it to a photo from my very real FB of me,Rae Hites and my husband Chris together. I'll say again, nobody would lie about being related to Richard Eric Hites! Most deny it!

Well...There is a famous indoor market a 10 min walk from my office. Some of the vendors are Amish and Mennonites. One of them sells some kick-ass jerky, both beef and turkey, in several different "flavors." I am pretty sure it's well over $20/lb. these days.

I have only been there once, but I will be back when I am in the city. Nice place to wander through, other than being too easy to over-indulge.

Also, In Eric's Facebook, Chris is listed as his brother, and another member has communicated with him through Facebook. I assume Chris was identified by our member via the link on Eric's page (the URL matches what he confirmed earlier in this thread).
With Eric's history, it is unlikely that he will succeed, but I do join the others in hoping that this is the time he honestly turns his life around... but his actions so far don't indicatre that is the case.

We don't have a sister. I think you got confused by the caption on the GFM link. However, he wouldn't be above fabricating one if he needed to. That post was just an attempt to show how kindhearted he was and garner more attention and funds for himself. It's typical Eric behavior.

And there sits the,"support vehicle(truck)" Angie was suppose to be driving out to meet him in and follow in. I just drove past my in laws house and snapped this picture. Notice the Minnesota plates? Angie's dad gave Eric this truck, second vehicle he provided to them at no charge, and keeps it plated in Minnesota where Angie is from and her parents live at. They live in Sandstone,MN. Randy & Patty Atterbury. Her parents own Attaboys Taxi Service. So,here sits the,"support vehicle". That should clear up the confusion about her driving and following him. She isn't.

A Different Take on Fat Guy Across America
This may be OT and mods -- feel free to delete or move if it isn't within the scope of the board...

?Fat Guy? biking across America: Why we believe only thin people deserve to be loved - Salon.com
Yet it’s far easier to assume that his weight was the culprit, and that, by extension, once he loses weight, he will be worthy of love. According to activist Virgie Tovar, creator of the Lose Hate Not Weight hashtag and editor of “Hot & Heavy: Fierce Fat Girls on Life, Love & Fashion,” equating thinness with worth isn’t new. “The news coverage of Eric’s bike ride is in conversation with this bigger American redemption motif, which is grounded in some of the same belief systems upon which diet culture pivots,” Tovar told Salon. “The idea is that fatness is indicative of personal immorality, and that fat people need to redeem ourselves through weight loss. Discussions of marriage and discussions of weight loss share some of the same lexicon, such as ‘being good’ and ‘cheating’ (on a spouse or a diet). Cultural expectations around marriage and body size go back to the Protestant obsession with discipline, merit and morality. I think there is a strong cultural belief that an immoral person—in this case, a fat person—does not deserve to have access to love or the sanctity of marriage because those are things we ‘earn’ though discipline, merit and morality.”
While Hites is certainly media savvy enough to have crafted a plan both to capture his wife’s attention and the world’s, the way his story is being covered only emphasizes the dangerous idea that losing weight will make you happy, healthy and solve your problems. It’s a seductive narrative, of course, because who doesn’t want a happy ending? We love to see a hero go out on a quest like this; it speaks to pulling yourself up by the bootstraps—or in this case, bike pedals, and makes it sound like we should be nodding our heads and saying, essentially, of course a 560-pound man would have trouble keeping his marriage alive. But the subtext of stories that imply weight loss will “save” his marriage to both the Hites and the topic a disservice.
According to body acceptance coach Lauren Marie Fleming, these headlines aren’t actually supportive of Hites as a whole person. “’600 pound man bikes across country to save marriage’ puts his weight first, makes him a number, and dehumanizes him and his experiences,” said Fleming. “I’d love to see a headline that left out his weight and instead focused on his emotional, physical, and spiritual journey instead, something like ‘Man Rides Across Country to Overcome Obstacles in Love and Life.’ Now that’s something I’d read and share.”

The way that most of us feel is that we'd be really supportive of him, if he was actually making an effort. But he's only biked about 50 miles in 50 days.
