Ride 38 - Metric Century - Wilson 100 Ride
Wow - Great afternoon! I rode in the Wilson 100 in GA... and had a great time! The amazing thang - it only took 4 hours 36 minutes 5 second....66.08 miles and so an avg of 14.3.
I rode with 2 friends that are both faster than I am. Once in awhile we would do a Pace line... That was fun. When I started riding in June I was afraid of riding so close to the rider in front of me.now I love it! But most of the ride I was still under my own steam. It was great - my right foot hurt by the end - will have to get insoles soon! Also had a full massage afterwards which was awesome!! Oh did I mention the 95 degree heat? Sweeet.... It really was fun and though there were hills-it felt alot easier than my last Metric Century. I think being with friends helps.and we started earlier than the pack - so the first 2 rest stops were full of people and it was fun to see familiar faces, meet new ones and say hello!
Cyclists are awesome! OH and the roller bladers were unbelievable. They rode the same course and in about the same time as me. They were really working!
OK - It's the Bee - over and out.

Hey Bee, You're a two wheeled Goddess and all that but I have a question: Is this really your 38th ride on your bike? You are doing so awesome and riding so far that you are putting me to shame! I've ridden my bike 200+ times and have never exceeded 40 miles.
When you say "ride 38" is that really the 38th time you've ridden or is it your 38th report?
You're so awesome, I'm not worthy of even sucking your wheel, but if this is really the 38th time you've ridden your bike, you are probably a natural, gifted athlete trapped in an Athena's body.

My son-in-law (with just 100 mile of riding) did 58 miles with me today.
His New Cannodale now has 158 miles on it.

Nope! Hey Mr Rides... It is really my 38th Ride. Prior to buying the bike at the end of June I would ride on our Rails to Trail (Silver Comet) with the ex-beau every so often. I used to ride out and on the way back - pull over get off the bike and lay on the grass with heat exhaustion! so I bet over the past 3 years - i went on say 5 or 6 rides including a mtb bike ride (which involved hitting a tree).
So yup basically this is Ride 38. One of my motivations for going on the weekly group rides is meeting people. So if I show up - I get to meet an incredibly friendly group - and get a great ride and workout to boot! So I think that helps with the motivation. Also wanting so much to be thin and healthy/fit helps as well.
Increasing mileage is not that hard if you are relatively healthy - aerobic wise. So yes I am overweight - but I have been working out. I started back at the gym in April and since then (up until this past month) I have spent about 5 days per week at the gym doing about 40 minutes on the elliptical - that may help my endurance. But for the last month - i have not really hit the gym - just done a workout video with knee lifts, lunges, and squats daily (except on weekends) so I can give this video a chance and work on my arms and legs so I can look like a fine Bee! So if you ride 40 miles - riding 50 or even 45 perhaps is not that much of an increase. I drink a ton of water on the ride. It really is about how much time you want to spend on the bike. Me - I want to ride - long. My friend has decided we will be doing a century at Bragfest (Bike Ride Across GA) weekend. We are riding in GA not across - but part of the weekend on Sat we will do a century. Wish me luck. Cause that does seem very daunting. So I guess increase a bit each week perhaps (with the caveat that it has to feel good on your body - or at least afterwards so you are safe and healthy).
Maybe we need a Mr. Ride Ride Report 1,2,3 and by 38 (or perhaps a lot sooner) you will be going on a Metric Century and at a lot faster than my Bee pace!

I rode 40 miles yesterday and 25 today. I average around 13 mph or so. After a 40 miler, I feel good, I'm not beat or anything, but I've ridden almost everywhere worth riding in my town. I live off of a scenic highway (126) so maybe I'll start riding out on that.
Also, on weekends I can take time to ride but I'm so busy at work it's hard during the week to even fit in a 90 minute ride...
Anyway, all I need is more work.

Miss Bumble, way to go! Was it that hot out there. I was sporting my +50 jersey. Got a late start, due to being a parking attendent. I was a fine ride.

OK - Point is I bet you could join some awesome group rides on the weekends...
And voila have you checked out this grop with an All are welcome note... which means they will likely have a ride leader assigned to stick witht he newbies and help them! (like me and you)

But they do seem fast - so I would call them and talk to people. I found that the ride leaders of fast rides that say all are welcome will volunteer to ride with me and go out of there way to let me know they mean it and would love to help me out. They usually say they ide so much they just love helping the newbie.

Don't you think the riding with the group is a big help? I started riding the end of May and I really started adding the miles when I started riding with the bike club on Saturday mornings. The first ride nearly killed me but after the fourth ride I felt so strong I could have done another 100yds
Definitely - Group ride is key - Plus it's how I met the guy I am dating, and a ton of new friends to ride with... so Yup group rides are awesome. Intimidating as hell - but hey What have I got to lose. I show up - hopefully print out a cue sheet and if per chance the group leaves me behind I can alway find my way. But in fact the group does not leave the Bee behind.
