I've been a bit of a bikeforums slacker for a few weeks, so apologies for resurrecting a couple of old threads...
I wasn't sure about setting goals, but I figure if I write it down and tell you lot, it makes it a lot harder to ignore
1) Lose 50lbs. Seems like a common one, but it's a good one, and I could certainly use it.
2) 1500 miles. I did a bit over 600 in 2008. I'm pretty happy with that, given I started in April and at that point half a mile nearly killed me.
3) London to Brighton bike ride in June. 54 miles for charity.
4) Metric century at least. Imperial would be nice, but that might be pushing it...
5) Join the gym. I've been putting this off from a cost point of view, but I've been cycling a lot less as the weather has turned grim

- Log at least 100 miles per month on bikejournal for a minimum 2009 logged distance of 1200 miles.
- Build or buy a backup bicycle for mechanical failure days. (better yet, a tadpole trike as the new primary ride)
- At least 25 lb weight loss from the assumed starting weight of 265 lb. (265 is my last measured weight, size has been steady, scale is broken.)
- Get a new scale.

Down 5 lb from the last known weight. Now at 260. I gotta eat better to meet the weight loss goal... Unless I had ballooned up even more than I thought.
The backup bicycle goal has, logically, morphed into finding a new primary ride and relegating my bike with sentimental value to the backup and leisure role.
Still haven't gone to get that new scale. I've missed three commuting days so far this year, two I wimped out and bummed a ride and one I wimped out and skipped work altogether. That puts me nearly 55 miles shy of where I oughtta be at this point this year.

Well, my 311 mile attempt in June is off the table. I'm going to be off the bike for 2 months. No way I'll be able to get back in shape quickly enough, and may have pain issues for a while after as well,, anyway

Genetics have failed me
I just want to finish with the pack. Every single race I've entered in 2008 I've been dropped. In one of the races I almost finished with the pack when I was dropped at the hill in the last lap after 10 laps. Damn!
Other than that... Loose more weight.. but what else is new.

4) Do a Pullup. This may seem goofy, but I've never been able to do one before, and hate that.

My #1 goal for 2009 is don't get laid off. Other than that, commute as often as possible and continue to lose minimum of 0.5 lbs per week for the year. Improve my uphill speed via my new trainer that's driving me crazy.

Goals for 2009, well ride more then 2008, should be easy, my better half just authorized the purchase of a trainer, as long as it works for both her and my bike. The spare room will go from being a relaxing room to a training room. Might try to pick up an extra wire for the bike computer so that we can track distance, then pick up another computer for her bike in the spring. Might just mount her bike on the trainer and just move the seat up and down, if it's a pita to switch bikes.
Other goals, to get back into film photography and at least get a temporary darkroom setup going......

I still do some processed food, but I'm looking at the label. High fructose corn syrup and other unpronounceable ingredients in it? Back on the shelf.
If I find goods in organic form, I buy it. Mostly fruit and salad. Also Newman's own stuff is very good.

Ok...I'll give it a shot....
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes the Monday before Christmas so I've got a real incentive to get healthy.
My goals:
1. Get my diabetes under control (so far, so good)
2. Lose 80 lbs (20 down....60 to go)
3. Eliminate sugars, starches and processed food products from my diet.
4. Complete the Tour de Cure at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in June.
4. Complete the Race Across Indiana in July (stretch goal).
5. Complete the Hilly Hundred near Bloomington, Indiana in October.
That's more than enough for one year.......

In Cumbria we mark summer by the point when the rain moves from horizontal to vertical and we can stop tying the sheep down. Any sheep seen tied down in August is purely for recreation.

- Monthly Mileage: I'm at 192 miles for January. I have 1.5 potential commuting days left in January (in to work Friday, both directions on Saturday). I've missed every Friday work night commute since the first week of December. Assuming I can break the Friday-night wimp-out trend this weekend, I'll have right at 219 miles in January. Furthermore, I will have doubled my Jan 1st to Jan 18th mileage in 2/3 the time.
- New Bike: Still no progress on the new primary set'o'wheels.
- Weight Loss: No real clue on the weight loss. See below.
- New Scale:I have the new scale. My new scale and my brother's new scale show far different weights. His shows me at 260 and mine at 270. I'm still debating getting one of those nice medical scales so that I can get an accurate measurement.

Planned changes:

Well I had no goals last year, didn't lose the weight I wanted, rode half the miles of previous year. Saw the error of my ways by May and tried to set a goal to ride a century; but then my aunt broke her hip. So way too much of the year was spent on cleaning up her paper work, and moving her into assisted living, and out of an apartment.
SO for 2009, I'm going for 3,000 miles again. And to make it interesting, I'll attempt to do it in 9 months. Only rode 15 miles so far this year, it's been too cold for me. And planning on December being too cold. Also will plan on my first and possibly only 100 mile century. Supported by planned stops at 4 different Wawa convenience stores in area..ergo the Wawa Century Tour. And hopefully all the riding and back to eating lots of turkey chili will get my weight south of 225 lbs.

Ok so I was being a chicken and not putting my goals in writing. I will now change that. Goals for the year.
1. Lose a minimum of 40 pounds by years end. From 300 to 260.
2. Commute to work a minimum if 3 times per week. 40 miles round trip.
3. Complete my first official century ride. I've ridden 80-85 miles in one go before (20+ years ago) but never the full century.
4. Enjoy the riding! If I don't then why do it at all?
