When to drink caffine?

Hey guys, just wondering when i should be drinking the caffine, before..after or during my ride to gain the best effect from it. I have found quite a nice sugar free energy drink which has like 6 cals and 75 MG of caffine per can, is that enough or should i be looking for more? Cheers for any help given.

Sugar free energy drink is actually an oxymoron, because it's the sugar that provides any real energy. Caffeine simply makes your brain think your more awake then you really are, it provides no real energy benefit.

While the gentleman who replied is technically correct in saying that caffeine without sugar does not provide energy, caffeine is a stimulant which does more than make your brain think it is more awake than it really is.

To the OP, if you have caffeine shortly before you start it will have a chance to get in your bloodstream. I haven't consumed it during a longer ride. Marathon runners used to drink de-fizzed during a race but I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

I know that from a weight loss point of view, it can be beneficial towards helping maximize your metabolic efforts when taken shortly before a ride.

Just remember it's also a diuretic. It could leave you dehydrated and making more stops to "undrink".
