I've walked parts of the Tammany Trace and can't wait to haul my bike out there for a day trip. The area around Abita is very nice (and of course the required stop at the brewery...).

I've driven parts of the Natchez Trace around Jackson, MS. I don't plan on doing that. It really needs a bike lane. The bikes hold up traffic, the bikers are in danger, the drivers are annoyed. Not a good combo. Very scenic though.

I am looking forward to riding the ATV trails in the Bonne Carre Spillway (between Kenner and Laplace). I keep hearing there are some good bowfishing spots in there also. Might be fun to scout by bike.

They have a 5 mile MTB trail in the spillway in Norco. They have races there all the time, even night races! Check out the Nomambo site and see if it's something you'd be interested in.

Thanks for the link! I'm not up to racing quite yet though....
I usually go home by I10 (its been fun watching the eagle nest lately, lots of activity- I really want to pull over and get some pics!) but Airline is not out of my way. I need to put a bike rack inside my truck. This could really be fun.

You don't have to race to go ride the spillway... I've seen some video of it, they have nice wooden bridges and everything. Even a see-saw bridge! One of these days I'm going to go there and ride it.

Looks like a pretty nice ride. I wish we had more stuff like that in the "Yankee" part of the state.

cool thread, it's nice to see Louisiana represented. i've ridden the mtn bike trail on Bonne Carre, it was a fun little trail. haven't been there since the storm, but i remember watching an owl watching me, which is kind of cool. seems like we all have a scheme to tour Louisiana at some point. i left NOLA after high school (navy) and have lived all over the map since then. i now know my way around several other states better than i know LA, which seems so wrong to me. that's why i have a (motor)cycle tour of LA on my bucket list, but i also want to do the Cycle Zydeco tour. are you guys familiar? not sure when i'll be able to get the right days off, but it'll happen sooner or later. pics from the spillway and levee....

Lafayette is a nice area, I've got a bunch of friends there. It looks like a blast.
