My Name is Terry and I am a Clyde
I have been a clyde for most of my adult life and at 56, that's been a while. I did get down to my proper weight for a couple of years, which is 165-170. While I always am somewhat aware of my weight, its never really occurred to me that I am a clyde. I am in the midst of really working on incorporating mindfulness and meditation into my life, and last week it suddenly hit me, I am a clydesdale, and I don't want to be a clydesdale. I believe that was a result of being more mindful of where I am in my life.
So here I am, hoping to join in here, hoping that you can open yourselves to allow me into the "club". I think that I need to apologize, somehow I never felt like I was a clyde, and held myself above you all, and I was wrong. ITs a bit like AA, you have to first admit to where you are, then proceed from there.
I weighed 236 last week, and decided to do two things differently than I have done in the past. First, I started counted calories, and tracking them with a computer based program, and secondly I decided that simply riding at a slowish pace was not getting me anywhere in my fitness goals. So I started doing interval training three times a week (on an indoor trainer right now) and just base type fitness riding the other days. Since Jan 9, I have seen a real improvement in my riding ability, with my power in sets of 10 x 1 minute intervals increasing from 300 watts to 330.
But the most exciting improvement has been is my weight- today I weighed in at 231.5. I have lost 4.5 pounds in a week. I am amazed. I have limited my actual, not estimated calorie intake to about 2000 per day, and its working.

Welcome and good luck on your "journey" of weight loss, don't be too worried about losing it all quickly - off slow - gain slow, lose quickly - gain quickly.

Hey Terry, welcome!
I'm 55 and started here at 252lbs. I've been hanging out here for a couple of years and am currently at 208. There's lot's of great advice and some nice folks here. Keep focused on the diet as well as the riding. Best advice I got here: "You can't out ride a bad diet".

Welcome. You're on your way to getting back to fit. Your plan sounds good. I started right about where you did. I started 2 months ago. I was 234 lbs. Yesterday I weighed in at 212 lbs, a 22 lbs loss. I'm impressed with the results, even though I have not been solid everyday in following the plan. However, I've never gone 2 days in a row without following my plan. So, when you mess up (and you will), don't even worry about it... just get right back on!
I'm looking forward to saying goodbye to clyde within a few months.

Welcome to the club, and congratulations on coming to grips with reality. And anyone is welcome to join the club! I see us as a pseudo "Hotel California". You can check in but can never leave. Once you check out (reach your goal of not being a clyde anymore), we hope you'll stick around and encourage others on the same journey! Besides, this is the friendliest corner of BF.net.

I agree photojoe. You cannot check out. the mistake I made in the past was forgetting what my physiological make up is, and that fat cells never die, they are just waiting for a new opportunity to express themselves. And I think that you owe not only a duty to help others along the way, but if you try to leave, you will forget the facts, the truth and end up right back where you started.
