Any interest in a Clyde ride to the shack?

Sounds like we have a couple new faces and at least one who's fallen off the wagon. so I'm thinking just gate to the shack.

April 6, 7, 13 or 20 are probably doable for me.

Same format as before - meet at boulder springs a bit before 8 and hit the road right at 8 and take as many "appreciate the scenery" stops as necessary.

I wish I could talk my son into it but I don't think he's quite ready yet. He was griping about his sunglasses this morning so I traded with him and let him enjoy my oakley fast jackets. I told him I'd buy him a set the day he rides all the way up GMR to the village but he's not biting (yet).

**** PARTICIPANT LIST ****

We will meet at Boulder springs Dr before 8 and head up the hill at 8 am on April 20.

Here is a sample Strava ride for exactly what we're going to do - https://app.strava.com/activities/16746365 (Pillaged from PhotoJoe, mine was wonky that day) You can see exactly where we started too, so get there 15 min. early and we'll do all our meeting, greeting and outright lying before we head up.

TrojanHorse
BeachGrad05 + team mates
[strike]AHultin + jr AHultin[/strike] - hanging out with their real friends instead
PhotoJoe [strike]+BakerySnack (possibly)[/strike] - afraid she'll break too many hearts
Erwin8r (no excuses! No fear!)
Huffin&Puffin
Beanz + 1 guitar
iTrek & Mrs iTrek
[strike]psalm - definitely[/strike] - wussed out
Astrozombie
jeepseahawk - in!

If I missed anybody, please PM me or add a post to the end and I'll update this again. Obviously there's no requirement to be in this list to go, all are welcome.

Hmmmm....I might be game as well for 4/20

Doing the dirt lot/gate to the shack tomorrow with Vntgdrms and some of the ladies from Team Unlikely Cyclist. We are taking the whole group up there on 5/19 as our "last" tough training ride for La Bella Preme.

Hmmm...would love to do it, but next weekend my friends and I will spend a 3 day weekend riding out in Solvang-Buellton. Then on the 20th I am doing the Ojai ride.

On a funny side note. Today I put my aqua rack back on for extra bottles for tomorrow and F'd up the seat post clamp bolt head such that I could not get it tight enough. So I went over to Performance and got a new one. SO while I am at the mechanic area there was a guy there with his days old Giant road bike. He was having difficulty with his cateye computer (he could not figure out how to change the setting from Kilometers to Miles). So we were chatting and I mentioned needing my seat post tight as was riding GMR tomorrow...and he asked what GMR was....so both the mechanic and I filled him in. AND then it happened...

The guy asked me "ARE YOU FIT ENOUGH FOR THAT KIND OF RIDE?"

I reassured him that I was indeed "fit enough"

I said "at least" one... but you certainly qualify. Maybe PhotoJoanne will be feeling her inner billy goat that day too.

I'm back on the wagon and doing a lot of climbing lately, should be ready mid April. Next weekend I volunteered for Redlands Classic, so no go on that date.

I think I'd be in for 4/20. I'm certain PhotoJoanne is NOT. She has ZERO desire. This all has to be on her timing, and she's not there yet. Haven't talked to Cupcakes yet, but she may be in.

Aerodinamically speaking, the bumble bee is not supposed to fly, its wings are too small for its body.

Yet it does fly.

BG, keep up the good work, and good on you for not punching out that rude guy.

Don't think he meant it rudely. He was a new cycling Clyde and figure he feels incapable at this point. I thought it amusing as little dies he know.

Man, I would love to go. So please pencil me in... Yeah, I'm worried... But I'll try to sneak some climbing training in between now and then. Maybe commute to work (5 miles, not many hills...).

I'll keep reminding myself of that when I'm suffering... lol. I know that you're right, though. My biggest obstacle is the start. I have to just get out there and do it. Last weekend (not this past one), we hit Puddingstone (during the bike races), and had a blast. I actually enjoyed the climbs (I know they're not terribly long, but they're enough to suffer a bit on) and the sense of accomplishment as you crest and fly down the other side. Hit some of the dirt too... (I was on my MTB).

Heck, if PhotoJoe can do it, anybody can do it!

The good thing about GMR is you can turn around at any time and it's all downhill to the top.

That's great. The sense of accomplishment drives me, too. The great thing about GMR is there are several stages of accomplishment. The first ride, you'll feel so good that you made the shack. You'll go home tired, and it will be awesome. Then, the next time, you'll make the village, and as you pass the shack, you'll think "That's it? That's the ride I was so intimidated by the first time? Pfff". But you'll make the village. You'll go home tired, and it will be awesome. I still have another level to conquer....the lifts. I want that notch in my belt by the end of 2013.

He's says that tongue-in-cheek, but he's actually very right. We all have our challenges. All of us started with being out of shape and overweight. I'm still there. And I did it. You will too!

Realized I can't make it on the 20th as I have training ride with Team Unlikely Cyclist every Saturday. Sunday the 21st would work better for me but I don't want anyone moving the date to that if it works better for everyone else to go on the 20th.

I was thinking of the 21st too but Ciclavia is that day and I'm tempted to drag the kids to that.

You should get your team to ride up SGRT to the shack and then back. That'd be a HECK of a training ride.
