Was cruising down the bike path with Johnny Cash in my headphones on my way to catch the train in Folsom (light rail) and had this urge to take a picture of this place .... which was also the subject of the song Johnny was signing about.

I had a bout of flu-like whatever.... and missed some really beautiful cycling weather. We had a perfect afternoon for bicycling here today. But my schedule meant I only had a chance to ride this morning when it was wet, cloudy, and windy. And even that ride had to do double duty as a trip to the post office. I loved every bit of the ride and think the workout did me some good.

With 87 miles in so far for March all I need to get the 100 is one quick ride. Hoping I can find that ride before Tuesday.

Another trainer day. Unfortunately, got up late so only could do 1/2 hour. Half is still better than none. Added another 8.7 T miles. Did the GCN 30 min hill climber workout. did generate a good sweat in only a half an hour.

New totals:

Goal: 250 miles updated to 300 miles (trainer inclusive - T = trainer)

so far
3/03 -- 10.2 T miles
3/04 -- 7.7 T miles (received a new fluid resistance unit for my CycleOps and it is much harder!!)
3/05 -- 12.8 T miles (1hr on the trainer)
3/06 -- 11.3 T miles (little over 45 min on trainer)
3/07 -- 25.2 miles OUTDOORS PERSONAL RECORD: DISTANCE!!!!!
3/08 -- 12.8 miles OUTDOORS!!!!

3/09 -- 14.1 T miles (1 hour on the trainer)
3/10 -- 10.0 T miles(about hour on trainer at a more moderate pace)
3/11 -- 10.5 miles
3/12 -- 10.2 T miles (about 45 min. on the trainer)
3/13 -- 10.5 miles
3/15 -- 35.6 miles OUTDOORS PERSONAL RECORD: DISTANCE and Time (2:51)!!!!!
3/16 -- 11.5 miles
3/18 -- 14.8 T miles (computer said I was averaging 16.1 mph on the trainer)
3/19 -- 12.5 T miles (again, averaged 16 mph. GCN workouts are tough)
3/20 -- 11.9 T miles
3/22 --
42.1 miles (3:18 - Personal record distance and time)
3/24 -- 11.0 miles
3/25 -- 11.8 T miles

Still know you crushed me last year. Even with that.

Yep, was diagnosed in April last year. Wasn't going to trash my race season so I waited until October to have it removed.

Still trying to make it to 30,000' this month. I usually don't start the climbing stuff until May. With the mostly flat riding I am doing now it would take >500 miles this month. I'll have to @jsigone step it up

6 "rest" days due to snow and cold. Wasn't going to miss the Thursday ride even though it was 10 degrees below where I normally draw the line.

3/26 20.9 Thursday Night Hill Repeats. Because of the mid 30s temp less repeats but added a 100' climb that maxes out somewhere around 20-21% to "warm us up". 5 repeats of about 400' vertical each. Tough to find in MN...

185/250 miles.

Might not make it, lose a day to donating blood this weekend, and forecasted 38mph gusts on Sunday will be interesting a pint low.

Is reverse blood doping good for training?

Thanks! You guys have been making me push a tonne harder.

You're doing most of yours offroad and on an MTB, though, @jsigone, no?

448 miles / 34,483' / 28h44m

(77'/mile, so at least it's lumpy riding. )

Sadly only one MTB ride this month. I been so focused on the roadie and vertical its getting kinda silly. One more month til the BWR ride, would like to get to a point where it might hurt a bit less on some parts and maybe smile a couple times in the mystery 139mi route.

My roadie has been mix of some dirt though not ideal for 23c tires but f it I need new tires anyways. But lately steep $hit. Double digit outta the saddle crap at 90% hr. This week my 4 lunch rides have been averaging 1700-1800ft per or about 94'/mile. Tough work with standard cranks, but lucky to still have the 28t installed from my last Palomar mt rodeo. Kinda trying to find some stupid steep hill endurance.... I haven't found it yet haha

I can only imagine; I'm not doing that kind of vertical on compact cranks and 11-28. BWR looks ... 'fun'.

I just want to do the SF Century without blowing my knee on Heartbreak Hill again and gimping the last 50 miles in pain and pedalling one legged.

Total elevation gain between downtown Sacramento to Folsom is about 450 feet for my 22 mile commute. Riding along the river it'll seem flat. Most of that 450' elevation comes in the little undulations in the trail and a couple very small hills as the trail approaches Folsom. Ride it either direction. Only thing that makes a difference in effort going up or down river is if it is windy.

You might not realize it but the light rail (Gold Line) parallels the bike trail as you get further east. If you want to cycle one way just park downtown near or at the Sacramento Valley train station (4th and H). Then go through old town Sac to the Sacramento river and catch the bike path upstream along the Sacramento River for a mile, cross the big steel bridge into Discovery Park where ARBT begins. Then you can ride up American River to River Bend Park where you can hop off the trail taking Rod Beaudry Drive over to Folsom Blvd and a light rail station. Buy a ticket ($2.50) and load up your bike on a westbound train and it'll take you right back to the end of the line at the downtown Sacramento train station where you parked. If you feel good and want to go further then just stay on the bike trail and you can cycle all the way up to the Fish Hatchery and Lake Natoma and to Old Towne Folsom and catch light rail back from there. Mileage from Discovery Park to Folsom is 25.

Have fun on the trail. It is a very enjoyable ride.
Thank you very much. Sounds like a blast. Can't wait.

In anticipation of mtn bike race season kicking up I've been using the mtn bike for the commute. On the way home I was swarmed with about 50 kids from the local high school mountain bike club. Tried to keep up with the high schoolers. Didn't happen. Those kids are skinny and fast!

Made it! With just a few days to spare. Hopefully the work travel will lighten up for me, and I can get back to riding consistently.

I also claimed my first Strava Overall KOM this morning. Not the most heavily ridden bit of road, but I'll take it!

Congrats! Both on the goal and the KOM.

I feel you with work travel. Next month is going to truly, truly suck for mileage.
