New Alberta Premier is a bike commuter

Alberta's new Premier -- Rachel Notley -- turns out to be a bike commuter. Maybe she'll have some bike cops for security.

Rachel Notley won the bike vote, proving transit solidarity is real | Metro

I wonder if she does it during the dead of winter. It gets pretty frigid in Calgary in January and February. But good on her for leading by example.

That's great news. Increases in bicycling could give a whole new meaning to Calgary stampede. The Mayor of Edmonton and his wife use bikes for much of their transportation and he's been working on getting some stuff done there.

Thanks for this. In everything I've read about the upset victory, I hadn't heard a peep about cycling.

It makes me feel more hopeful to hear about politicians commuting via bike. Thanks for posting.

I was so impressed in their victory and it gives me so much hope before the federal election.

Now to find she is a cycle commuter.

Woot, woot!

It's a valiant example to try and set in Alberta (I live in Grande Prairie) but winter is 6 months long, good to see though.

I am still reeling from the change in government. On May 5, I was flying in from Texas and when I landed, everything is opposite. I still suspect the plane went through a rip in the time/space continuum and ended up in a different universe. The mean age of MLA's dropped 20 years and the mean IQ tripled. This is an extreme change in politics. The NDP and the Progressive Conservative are much more different than the Democrats and Republicans. Some Americans would call the NDP (New Democratic Party) communists.

I know that Rachel Notely is an avid bicycler. Maybe we can get some funding for proper bicycle lanes with the slight increase in corporate tax and royalties. At least now we have a government much more friendly to green ideas. The last time an old conservative politician ever used a bicycle was the day before they got their driver's license.
