Temperature above freezing and not much wind to speak of. I say, 2 layers if you have a thicker baselayer, and three if they are on the thin side. This includes your jacket, of course.

Yep. 35 degrees and raining this morning. Real feel was 31 degrees. I used my long sleeve tech tee, thin smart wool 1/4 zip, thin breathable water resistant jacket. I had on the thin balaclava and ski goggles. I would rather deal with snow than 35 degree rain. It's supposed to get wetter tomorrow but warm up into the mid 50's.

Logging in from Sudbury, 4hr drive north of Toronto, 2C this morning, thin long-sleeved merino layer, standard (thin) long-sleeved jersey layer, long-sleeved thick jersey (but not wind-proof) and I am fine in this until 0C at which point I either put on a wind-proof gillet or a thicker mid-layer. For me, below 3C, I need both mid-weight gloves plus an overmitt shell (lobster-style) and below -5C, well, I haven't encountered that yet this year.
Normally, by the time it reaches -5C, persistent snow appears and I'm off my Kona Sutra touring bike and waiting for more snow so I can get out the winter bike with the DIY studded tires. However, this year, snow and real cold are slow to appear. Last Friday, we had slightly more than a dusting of snow overnight that lasted until Sunday morning but disappeared by noon.

It was 55 when I left this morning in NYC, and expected to hit 65. I put my light jacket and leggings on but don't expect to need more than my shorts and short sleeve shirt on the way home. Tomorrow is a different story, with a high expected of 50. I'm not likely to ride in anyway, I almost never ride two days in a row.

Funny how I'm living the opposite, short tights for me tomorrow yay.
Full on winter my riding kit is thermal tights + leg warmers + base layer + sweater + thermal jacket + balaclava. Oh yeah.

its been in the 40s on my way home at night. i wear a pair of tights with some shorts over the top. A rain shell mitten and a merino cycling cap under my helmet. (sometimes the merino is a bit to hot still.) Unless its raining, i just wear a button up shirt and a t-shirt under that. i hope to sustain this uniform throughout the year. slowly acclimating myself to the cold.

Today is the first day with leg warmers for me this season, commuting daily in Seattle. Also today I wore two long sleeved jerseys and the wider headband to cover my ears.

Down to 32F I'm in a t-shirt and shorts, with my light windproof jacket.
Below freezing down to about 10F I add long pants.
Single digits and lower is when I add a base layer.
Days with particularly strong winds will adjust those number slightly up.

Our weather is schizophrenic. Friday morning it was in the 30's so I used a base layer and wind shell, with a short-sleeve jersey in between just for the pockets (shell only has 1 pocket that is really only for stuffing it in on itself). Also used my super-comfy bib tights. Today it was in the 60's this morning and 70's this afternoon prior to storms rolling through, so I just used shorts and jersey. By the weekend we're back to 30's overnight and 50's during the day.

Yikes! You remind me of a group of about 30 people riding scooters behind me on Saturday. The temperature was in the mid 40's and they were riding in only shoes and underpants. However, it was obvious that they were freezing.

My record for my motorcycle is 4F. I think I wore every piece of clothing I could fit underneath my leathers, and still was freezing cold. I had to avoid the faster roads because above 35 mph I would get the worst ice cream headache I could imagine. Generally I stop riding the motorcycle when temps drop below freezing. Even in the 30s and 40s though I still have to dress pretty warm to keep the temps tolerable.
On my bicycle my record is -14F. Outside of my hands and feet getting cold (for which I've yet to find a good solution) I was just fine once I warmed up. The first mile after I leave home is all downhill, so that can be a bit nippy but then once I start providing the momentum I stay plenty warm and actually have to be careful not to sweat too much. I find it really doesn't take a whole lot of clothing to stay warm on a bicycle.

37F here this morning. First time this season I wore tights over shorts rather than just knee warmers. LS jersey and polypro baselayer up top. Had a windvest on for a bit but took it off after 15 minutes.
