bag fetish

I bought another bag. I think I have more bags than Imelda Marcos has shoes. The newest one is the Jandd Mountain III seat bag.

https://www.jandd.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FMW3

As usual, I like the new bag. I wanted to add some light weight load carrying capability to my "fast summer commuter" SS road bike conversion. Didn't want the weight of a rack. Wanted to be able to remove it easily on race day (yeah right ).

Used it on the way to work this morning. Fits a change of clothes, lunch, lock, keys, and wallet. Would never fit a thermos or laptop computer in there.

It's a different shape than I thought. The pictures on Jandd's sight make it look mostly round. It's actually long and skinny, though. It fits well on my bike. I'm not using the elastic straps that are supposed to extend to the chainstays. Some flopping side to side won't bother me.

Its a little bigger than the large waist pack I have been using most of the summer. I use a messenger bag with this bike when I want to carry more stuff (like a thermos or laptop).

You oughta check out some of the Carradice saddlebags along with the SQR mounts. I have a Pendle, which carries everything I need, along with SQR mounts on all my bikes...so I just throw the bag on the bike-of-the-day and go.

I just bought the Nashbar Basic Rack Trunk bag (my first bag), but I think that panniers are dead sexy. Even after my first bag purchase, I can feel myself becoming a bag junkie.

Congrats on the purchase!

Oh boy. Total bag junkie here.

Current bag arsenal:

Reload messenger bag
Jandd Hurricane messenger bag (retired)
Ortleib backpack
Carradice Barley
Mountainsmith daypack
small Jandd seatpack (holds all my tools, spare tubes, etc...)

I bought the Mountainsmith daypack at a yard sale. I totally didn't need it but it was $10.

Is Mountainsmith still around? I have some of their paniers and small seat bags that I bought 10 or 15 years ago. Really well made. I looked for some of their stuff when I was shopping for the large seat bag. Couldn't find anything from Mountainsmith. Too bad. Their stuff was first rate.

Edit: Actually, I think they are still around, but just don't make bike stuff anymore.

And they've outsourced their backpacking gear to...Mexico, I think.
