The helmet my father-in-law bought does not have a visor and now he would like one.
I have not seen this but could be out there somewhere. any ideas?

If by visor you mean the little bill like the front of a baseball cap - look for a golf visor and wear it under the helmet. Some cycling hats also have small bills or visors but I'm not sure they will be long enough to block any sun.
If you mean a shield that covers the face, I bought one last fall from nashbar. It attachs with velcro. Louis Garneau made it if I recall. I just looked and don't see it listed this year.

I tried the clear face shield a couple years ago but had the following problems:
The shield did not quite clear my glasses so it applied pressure to the frames making them uncomfortable (I need my glasses to see).
It caused my glasses to fog under most conditions I was interested in using the shield.
The shield would fog and rain would cause the shield to be very difficult to see through.
I think the clear visors like the Louis Garneau shield are best used with thier aero TT helmet and not for commuting.

yes this is what he wants. I doubt he would want to wear a hat under the helmet.

This is a good question. My helmet (older bowl shape style) also does not have a visor, and now that we're coming into lower sun position season I'm considering making one out of thin plastic. It seems to me that it shouldn't be too hard to come up with something that not only works but looks decent also.

Cycling cap works great, and its cheap. Keeps the sun off my eyes and rain off my glasses. Swobo makes one that covers your ears as well, but I'm sure there's others out there. The only after market visor I've seen are ugly big things that don't stay on very well.

Troy Lee Designs used to make them. I'm not sure if they still do though. I had one on my old helmet and it worked fine. The visor attaches via small velcro stickers.

I use this https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=1340. It's bill is just long enough to keep the sun out of my eyes without catching the wind. And it covers the top of my head to prevent interesting bald-man waffle-iron suntans.
