be honests plz.
Why would I lie? Our two person household has a hybrid and road bike. A u-lock for each. Can easily commute places together and lock them up together. Or if going out alone can take the bike most suited to the occasion. Both with racks so can throw the rack trunk on or strap stuff down two either one.

I have one right now I really enjoy commuting and leisure riding, a Schwinn Pathway hybrid

I am doing research right now to get a serious road bike. Probably steel construction and later I'd like to consider carbon fiber if I join any social groups.

2 1/2--currently

My big spendiness

My wifes red Murry 18speed (my current commuter) and my recently aquired Brittany blue 12 speed (my soon to be commuter). The Brittany is real comfortable, i cant wait to get it road worthy.

Doesnt everybody have a work in progress? this has been on and off for the last 12 years---although im sure most of you wont care for it. Not much left of the original kids bike, the seat pan, and a about half the tubing.

I have two mountain bikes. I have a Rocky Mountain Vertex ( hardtail), for everyday commuting and winter riding it's my all purpose bike, and I also have a Rocky Mountain Switch ( full suspension) for doing all the crazy stuff.

Bikes: The keepers: 1958 Raleigh Lenton Grand Prix, 1968 Ranger, 1969 Magneet Sprint, 1971 Gitane Tour de France, 1973 Raleigh Tourist, 3 - 1986 Rossins, and a '77 PX-10 frame in process.

At the moment, nine:

Two long haul touring : 1969 Magneet Sprint, 1991 Bianchi Nyala. Both bikes alternate as my Saturday commuters (22 miles each way).
Three fast road bikes: 2003 Fuji Finest, 1986 Rossin RL, 1984 Trek 460.
Two vintage road (more for collectability, although they're daily riders): 1971 Gitane Tour de France, 1973 Peugeot UO-8.
One fixed gear: 1964 Raleigh Gran Sport.
One hybrid kept at work for lunch time errand running: 1993 GT Passage.
And a couple of project to be admitted to when they're built and running.

I live 22 miles from my job, normally commute with a Qingqi 150cc scooter Tuesday thru Friday, then take one of the tourers on Saturday (I only work 2/3rds of a day, so I have the time to do a day's ride rather than just go straight home).

While I enjoy the bicycle commute, at that distance it's something that I wouldn't want to make mandatory five days a week. The hybrid does all the transportation during work hours when I'm in town.

Have:
My Mountain / Commuter - Trek 4300
My Road Bike - Schwinn
My Kid Hauler - Trek T900 Tandem
Family Members - 1 adult and 3 kid bikes.
Extra kid bike (because you need more bikes than kids if friends show up - trust me).
So 8 usable bikes. 3 parts bikes. Plus trailers, tricycles, etc.

Want:
Xtracycle - I'm watching for a bike that I can use for this.
New road bike for long distance (and make my Schwinn a SS or fixie) - maybe next year.
I need to get another kid bike working too.
That would get us to 11 bikes. And I will need a bike shed at that point.

4 right now

Fixed IRO Mark V
Singlespeed budget build mountain bike/rain bike/utility bike
Old department store 3 speed in need of some parts/love
Tall Bike

I'm moving to Colorado soon though and assume I'll get the itch for something with a broader range of gears. I can't decide between a 29er or a cx though. The tall bike is getting left behind though.

Four:

Main commuter: Trek 4300 with fenders, rack, lights, classic milk crate.

Multi-modal-backup/winter-beater: Some kind of Diamondback mountain bike. It is backup in summer and get studs in winter.

Urban runabout: Schwinn suburban that I found for free and fixed up enough to ride. It is used for errands because I don't worry (much) if it gets stolen.

Folder: A Sun Rambler-7 20-inch folder, for specific uses where only a folder will do.

current bicycle collection

1.Late 1970's-80's Campagnolo equipped Flandria road racer. ( fair weather show bike) Gotta sell it.

2. Restored and somewhat improved 1980 Centurion Super Lemans with mustache bars great in city traffic. Will sell when my Raleigh frame is finished. A pretty bike but I have too many.

3. Rans V2 recumbent fast and comfy for flat to rolling terrain. Love it but selling this also.

4. 1984? Raleigh Technium converted to a 'two speed' 51 and 65 inch gear commuter.

5. Surly Long Haul Trucker, set up Rivendell style, my most versatile and favorite ride.

6. Raleigh Wyoming frame soon to be modified with different drop outs and re-painted to replace the Technium frame that I am too heavy for. Probably will put mustache bars on it and a generator hub.

7. Trek 850 mountain bike converted for street use. Its my wifes bike but I fit it o.k. and ride it sometimes.

8. Some sort of folder is in the planning stages.

9. Want to build a lugged frame rando style bike with all the bells and whistles.

2 right now, about to be 3
Kona Jake for commuting, road rides, and eventually cross racing if I can man up and get out there this Fall
Budget dinglespeed MTB built off the $50 Nashbar frame.

My new Van Dessel Hole Shot is being built right now, and I may end up selling the MTB due to lack of use, and lack of space.
I have all kinds of road/path riding right out my front door (Arlington VA) but driving some distance to ride my MTB is beginning to look more like folly each day. I figure that since both my other bikes will be CX style, I can pretty much handle most "trail" riding I encounter. Plus, between the other bikes, wife's bike, kayak, and surfboards, my garage is awfully crowded.

I have 3...

1) Trek 7100 multitrack hybrid... bought this first from the LBS and liked it ok then started to hate it because I couldn't get very fast with it... its now my foul weather bike and I am thinking about changing out the shock absorbing seat post to see if that doesn't improve the ride for me...I have about 300 miles on it.

2) Dawes Lightning Sport road bike... bought it off of ebay and I have about 1200 miles on it so far. Its a good solid bike for the money and the wheels are pretty strong (as I am on the heavy side...). I think I have had the wheels true'ed once in the year and a half that I have owned it...

3) Trek 1220 bought used. It was a great deal and even though the frame is a touch big for me, I have enjoyed riding it... the wheels are a bit more fragile than the Dawes though, I have had to true them up at least a couple of times and I have only owned it for about 6 months... I have put about 300 miles on it..
