I've been commuting by bike 4-5 days each week for the last year-and-a-half so everyone's gotten used to seeing me in lycra. I park my bike in my office and get occasional comments/questions on it.

A few people have expressed interesting in bike commuting, but only one person has actually ridden in with me in all this time. He hasn't ridden in again since, but he has talked about it. There's a guy who lives on my street who works in the same building and he's talked about it to but hasn't actually tried it yet. At least he's started riding on the weekends.

Sweet! Now I know who to complain to next time a TFS upgrade hoses our database. And you're local too.

Ok, so it wasn't that bad, we just had to delete our entire build history to get it to complete.

I'm a police detective in Colorado.

Quite a few of the investigators / patrol cops commute on bicycles occasionally, although I'm currently the only one who does it every single day. We have an awesome locker room / shower setup, and indoor storage for our bikes, along with Parktool stands and tools if we need do some minor repairs / maintenance while we're there.

With several of us commuting, it has an interesting effect on the group. We motivate and inspire one another, even silently at times, and it's fun to watch the effect it has on those who wouldn't normally consider riding. We all struggle to go faster, get in better shape, buy cool stuff for our bikes, etc...and then we shun the fat, donut-eating cagers who refuse to ride.

Lawyer in a big firm. Unbelievably boring desk job, hence how I found this site.

We have an underground garage where we park our bikes, with lockers. I parked next to a Cervelo yesterday, but the bikes are actually mostly hybrids or (like mine) rigid 90s MTBs with slicks.

They even took my two hangers that I left in the bathroom supply closet that I use to hang my sweaty bike clothes. Guess I will start hanging them in my cube! They even prohibit me using a personal fan to cool off with after I ride.

I think its time to look for a new job.
I am a self employed, high end, jewelry designer and manufacturer. I have also made a living as a professional photographer (mostly in the 80's) I'm in a bit of an odd situation, in that, I sometimes work from home and at a retail store, 27 miles away. My partial commute is an easy, flat, 8.5 miles, to be exact, one way, mostly on a bike trail, with a few miles on country roads and small town streets. If I ride the whole way of course, it is 56 miles round trip. I simply can't do what I do when I am tired so I have limited my commute to the partial 17.5 mile one. I save the full distance for when I feel like it, in good weather and when work demands are low. Nobody hassles me about my cycling to work since I am involved in a loosely formed partnership, so to speak. More like an artists guild of fine jewelers.

First year law student (guess the school).

I also fill my free time photographing NCAA basketball (and other less interesting sports). I currently having a standing "press pass" at my undergrad Alma Mater, and I'm working on getting to know the right people to grab one of those at my current school.

I am a usability engineer for a large financial services company. I bike about 9-12 miles one-way. My employer has a gym with showers and I am a member (the cost is pretty cheap about $25 a month). We have bicycle racks and the gym recently opened up several long lockers specifically for bicycle commuters (for a small fee). All-in-all, quite "commuter friendly".

I am a systems administrator.

I commute in about 4 miles or so and then do a slightly different route on the way home for another 6.5 miles. The company doesn't actively promote commuting, but neither do they make it difficult. I keep my bike in my office and cool off after the morning ride by standing near the AC vents in the server room.

I'm a code compliance inspector with the city of Dallas. I take a duck bath (I DO shower at home first!) when I get to work and after a few minutes of cooling off. I can't hang sweaty clothes around the office so I roll my damp biking clothes up and place them in my messenger bag. I wear my damp clothes again to go home. Our office is kinda cramped but I found a small prime corner to keep my bike...at least until someone complains, then I'll use hiding place #2. If worse comes to worse, I can cable/u-lock my bike outside where the rest of the unwashed masses park (shiny motorcycles).

Software Systems Architect for our data warehouse. I also work on the ETL (data loads) process as needed.

I've got a 10 mile commute to a nice bike friendly building. I'm one of two people that commute here on any kind of a regular basis. There are over 600 people working in the building so it's pretty sad there are only two of us.

I'm a staffer in a United States Senator's office.

It's great that I can park my bike in a secure location and within 15 feet of a uniformed police officer. We also have a gym and showers on site.

Technical writer for a software company. Used to be a rock climbing guide.

I don't think anyone else here even owns a bike, let alone commute.

Awesome! I do this sometimes as well. I've been paid to see movies in the theater, rent movies, grocery shop, and just go to any store in general. I do all that fun stuff because I have to take the people I serve into the community and do things that you and I would do unconsciously; buying groceries, picking up odds and ends, acting proper in restaurants and movie theaters, etc.

I work at a group home for delinquent and abused teens. We're somewhat of a halfway house for 17 and 18 year olds.

I live on the property so my morning commute is either walk across the street from my house, or if I'm on duty that night all I have to do is put on my shoes and walk into the kitchen.

My "commuting" is everything else that I do. I drove to Colorado from Michigan and the truck has been pretty much parked since I got here.

"Medical" photographer at a pediatric hospital... betcha can't guess which one!!
Although this "medical" photography includes portraits, events, work for Public Affairs and Marketing etc...

As for facilities there's a secure bike cage (hospital id card scan) with tons of space (probably about 20-25 racks) in the parking garage across the street from the hospital. I think there are showers in locker rooms generally used by the "environmental services" staff. All in all pretty bike commuter friendly.

A lot of these jobs seem to involve a lot of sitting... wonder if that is a coinicidence or if you have a physical job, you're less likely to ride in to it?

My official title is "High Tech Center/ Access Coordinator" and I work for a local California community college. I manage all of the accessible technology (for people with disabilities) in our high tech lab, interpret the Americans with Disabilities Act as it applies to our campus, create and implement policy, teach (one class a month) faculty/staff how to design accessible web pages, and create/distribute electronic text for students. I was a computer technician for 5 years before taking on this job; when I began losing my vision, I couldn't read the serial numbers or see the insides of the computers anymore. I have another job as a graduate student at California State University Northridge....3 more semesters left and that master's in Communication Studies is mine :-) I am currently conducting research on Second Life and other virtual realms, specifically the deaf/autistic/wheelchair communities that have formed within these digital realms, and I am trying to pin down how I can write a thesis on this subject.
I am fortunate in that I have a fairly large office so I just park my bike inside. My office is called "the spider cave", because due to my cornea disease and subsequent sensitivity to light, I have removed all light bulbs and covered up my windows. So no one even gets to see my bike to ask me about it :-(

I used to work in the receiving department of the hospital (needed to pay the bills). And that could be pretty physical work, I think I'd bike unless my job was super physically demanding. Of course it doesn't hurt that I currently live about 2 miles from work.

Marketing Coordinator - My company's Jack-of-All-Trades where marketing//PR/advertising/graphics/tradeshows are concerned

Just about finished our 224pg catalog. I really, really hate doing catalogs.
But I now have a much deeper appreciation for huge catalogs like Bass Pro Shops and U-Line. Not a one man job, that's for sure.
