Here's a pic of my ride. An early 90's Specialized Rockhopper that I added two (yep, two...cause I am pretty much blind at night) CatEye Opticube headlights to, a CatEye rear LED blinky, rack, and some cheap grocery panniers. Oh, and some slicks that help a bit with it being a mountain bike and all. It gets me to work and back every day, so it will have to do for now!

Here's my commuter-1999 Raleigh R600. Nothing fancy, but it gets me to work and home. Looks a little different than when I was commuting in 2001-2003. I'll most likely be putting the headlights back on in another couple of weeks as the days get shorter.

52F & foggy at 6AM, I felt secure with the strobes of my home made light system throwing out a yellow circle front & rear & the headlight beam cutting through the fog.
It was still overcast & 58F during my lunch commute home. Still looking for that 75F & sunny part of the forecast, perhaps this afternoon?

Ya know perhaps the most interesting thing is a lot of commuting bikes here are "trucks." I gotta get a pic of mine up here... I was rather surprised to see that a lot of folks tend toward the heavier bikes and tires for commuting. Sure, there are some sport bikes, but for the most part folks "geared" their rides for the spotty environment that the day to day road really is.

The other observation is that there are few if none of the "campus" bikes that shops are selling as commuters... everytime I go into a bike shop thinking I really want to upgrade, I say the word "commute" and get lead to these things and I just wanna puke... no way you're gonna grind up a hill on one o' those.

You folks also gave me an idea for an upgrade... used frame... build it up!

well, This is my "fun" bike (Mikado Kensington 2003), that I use on weekends/evening for leisure, but I've been using it almost exclusively to commute to work for the past 3 weeks. My real commuter has been showing a lot of affection for the bike repair shops, and always requests attention from them. I guess the 8 years it spent with me are really getting to it.

I can get my My bike inside work, for the duration of the repairs so that's cool. So nice riding back home with a speedy bike.

The latest incarnation of my commute/cyclocross bike. I don't have the freddy fenders on since it hasn't rained yet. I just switched from the Forte handlebars to Ritchey Pro ergo bars, and the reach and width is now perfect. The Ritchey 42s are slight wider with a shorter reach than the Forte 42s.

Thanks. With those wide 700x38, the ride is smooth too, not quite balloon tires but close.

I've been checking that Bianchi out all weekend. I don't read the commuter threads too often, but with people riding in on bikes like that I will have to stop by more often. What do you think of the Performance wheelset? Did you remove the decals? Thanks for the great pic of a great bike.

Thanks for the compliments . I did take the decals off the wheels (the yellow didn't really color coordinate well). The wheelset is strong (for 130# me), fairly light (~1750gr), and a decent price (~$200 on sale). They are the same wheels as the Neuvation M-28 Aeros (confirmed by the owner of Neuvation himself).

It was a bike shop bike; bought it in 2000 before Schwinn went kerfluie.

It's a cheap fixed-focus digital camera; it usually does good unless I move when it's reading the CCD.

Me and my Cannondale (click on the pic for fullsize):



Though I am clearly not commuting in this picture, rather I was mountain biking in Sedona, AZ - which I highly recommend - I also use my F1000 to commute from Arlington,VA to Downtown DC. Its a 5.5 Mile ride but on the way home I take the scenic route down around National Airport extending my ride to 14.5 miles for a total of 20 miles a day. I love my ride and I am totally hooked on bicycle commuting!
