Is the 2009 Opus Classico any good for a 22.4 km commute to School?

Hey, I am new to the forums.

I have decided to commute to school from now, on account of building my endurance and saving some extra money. My budget is appx. $500 CDN (appx. same in USD, I think)

My commute is 22.4 km (13.9 miles) long. The route is from the suburbs (I think that`s what it`s called) to the Downtown core core of Toronto. On my route there are two bicycle routes that I could potentially use to make my trip faster and and more enjoyable.

Often times I would need to carry my appx. 4 kg (8.8 pound) Laptop with notebooks and some other stuff.

I haven't rode a bicycle in forever. I will be practicing this summer.

So my question is: Is the Opus Classico good for task? There having a sale on the bicycle at Duke's Cycle: https://dukescycle.ca/index.html?cPath=153. If not are any of the bicycle's there a good deal?

I have scanned through countless Kijiji and Craigslist ads to find a good bargain as well. But since I have no real knowledge on the subject, I am unable to weed out a good bargain. If any body lives in Toronto and comes across a good bargain that they will be passing up on, could you please let me know, thanks.

I Hope this is not too much.

P.S. I am in my twenties, pretty fit, should I go for a regular hybrid or specify to commuter for the comfort (appx. hour long commute)?

I think the Opus looks like too much of a comfort bike. It seems counter-intuitive but for a long commute like you are planning, I think you would find it too slow and it would get uncomfortable. The Trek 7.2 FX or Specialized Sirrus look like decent choices. Go test ride them all and see what you think!

Thanks. I will keep that in mind. Even though I do want my commute to be comfortable, I would still prefer a bike intended for commuting. The only reason why I brought up the Opus Classico is because the sale is 40%! off. I figured without the sale the bike would be more than $500ish. Making the bike a good bang-for-buck bike.

I stumbled upon this bike on Urbane Cyclist. I really like the colour design. Any opinions on it? It is also an Opus (A brand from Montreal, Canada I think): https://www.ucycle.com/products/bikes...rs/opus-cervin

Any input, welcome.

P.S. What is the difference between a 'single ring commuter' and a 'triple ring commuter'? Assuming the triple ring is better, is it worth it?
