Is the 2009 Opus Classico any good for a 22.4 km commute to School?

Hey, I am new to the forums.

I have decided to commute to school from now, on account of building my endurance and saving some extra money. My budget is appx. $500 CDN (appx. same in USD, I think)

My commute is 22.4 km (13.9 miles) long. The route is from the suburbs (I think that`s what it`s called) to the Downtown core core of Toronto. On my route there are two bicycle routes that I could potentially use to make my trip faster and and more enjoyable.

Often times I would need to carry my appx. 4 kg (8.8 pound) Laptop with notebooks and some other stuff.

I haven't rode a bicycle in forever. I will be practicing this summer.

So my question is: Is the Opus Classico good for task? There having a sale on the bicycle at Duke's Cycle: http://dukescycle.ca/index.html?cPath=153. If not are any of the bicycle's there a good deal?

I have scanned through countless Kijiji and Craigslist ads to find a good bargain as well. But since I have no real knowledge on the subject, I am unable to weed out a good bargain. If any body lives in Toronto and comes across a good bargain that they will be passing up on, could you please let me know, thanks.

I Hope this is not too much.

P.S. I am in my twenties, pretty fit, should I go for a regular hybrid or specify to commuter for the comfort (appx. hour long commute)?
