Don't beat yourself up. One of my co-workers said that he was going to bike to work, and when I asked him how it went, said that "it was too cold that morning". In Los Angeles?? In May??? Give me a break!

Haha a cold LA morning is a comfortable morning to be on a bike. I sweat like mad otherwise.

I’m a big talk-show fan, even listening on my bike rides, and my user name is how I’m introduced when (rarely) calling in (“…and now here’s Jim from Boston. What’s up, Jim?”) One of my favorite local hosts, a curmudgeonly true cager who dislikes cyclists did a rant called “Bike Week Bane”:

Whenever I call or E-mail the station, I introduce myself as their “Number One Fan among Boston’s Bicycle Commuters.”

Jim:
that was an interesting listen. I have to agree with why so many drivers are pissed off at us. Running lights and signs is crap and it makes the whole lot of us look like crap. It is especially crap when it causes groups of cars to have to pass you multiple times and if you have half a clue you would realize that may actually make it more dangerous for the rider

The only time I am Ok with it is when cars are grid lock. If traffic is flowing and just stopping for the light there is no reason to filter. I personally try to ride the gaps between pulses of traffic. I want to be the last one through the light so I catch those gaps so I do not filter at lights.

Bike lanes around here piss me off because they all seem to end at a light and if you use them you filter. I flipped out the country commissioner for my area when I asked how to get them painted over in a few spots (the lane starts 200 feet before the intersection and ends at the intersection WTF?!?!?!) and they do not run street sweeper so they are full of crap.

So basically I want no bike lanes(because they are designed like crap and not maintained) and I want cyclist to quit thinking they are special and obey the law.

i biked to work 5/20/11. It was good to crank to work and back again, 25 mile total!
As usual, i did not see other bicyclists, all day here.
it still feels good to be part of a simple solution...

I managed to get sick a couple nights before bike to work day, so I only did a part bike route (about 4 miles) and didn't ride with my usual convoy (which I really enjoy normally). Still, one of my favourite days of the year. This year's DC shirt was purple and I managed to my free coffee on it so when I got to work I ran it under the tap and the dye bled like crazy... so perhaps a silver lining. I always go to the Freedom Plaza stop even though it's not directly on my route - more going on there usually.
