What handlebar would leave me more upright than my Bridgeport XO-2's moustache bar?

I am trying to reduce the pain in the nape of my neck which I get from cycling. I am 62 years old, and suspect my problem is arthritis. I have already changed stems, and added a stem extender. Now I want a handlebar that will require minimal leaning forward. Would a Nitto Albatross be an improvement?
Thanks.

An albatross would definitely move your hands back. The other option is something like this - https://store.velo-orange.com/index.p...ar-config.html - which would move you both up and back. There are multiple variations of each of these bars on the market.

Have you ever been involved in a serious car accident? The reason I ask is that your condition sounds a bit like 'Shermar's neck'. Here is a bit more information on it as well as a recommended treatment: https://www.ultracycling.com/training/neck_pain.html

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've had no such accidents, and my pain comes much sooner than at the end of 300 miles.

You could try flipping the moustache bar to gain a little height. If that isn't enough, the Albatross is great bar that should bring you higher still (it comes back further than a moustache bar), but is rather expensive for what it is. There are a few north road style bars for cheaper (do a Google shopping search for "north road handlebar"), and Wald makes a number of cruiser bars that have a very similar hand position and are a lot cheaper. If you really want to get upright, ditch the stem riser and get a Wald high rise cruiser handlebar. The only caveat is that the more upright you get, the more it sucks riding in a headwind.

Even a flat bar would reduce your reach quite a bit.

If you want a flat that sweeps back a bit and like the budget end of things like I do, there's the Dimension Arc and the Kalloy Allrounder.

I like my Felt Albert bars quite a bit. They're similar to Mary-style bars, but more rounded. The bars you mention should work well too.

Here's a bike I set up for my boss, who has back problems:

$20 stem extender, $20 high rise stem, and $15 steel north road style bars. The riding position is completely upright. Handlebar mount shifters are probably next.

The Nitto products are great, but there are cheaper, functional alternatives.

You could also look into recumbents.

Nice work. Having a stem that long would make me nervous, but I suppose the higher you go the less weight you're putting on the bars. And yes, that thing is begging for shifters on the bars - I could picture myself hitting my face on the handlebars while reaching down that low to shift.

And to the OP, you might want to post a pic of your current setup for more specific suggestions.

+ Bene Sugg: a set of thumb shifters, are straightforward to install and use..
go for it.

the $15~20 stem extension tubes are steel . JRA, like myself, riders

don' t tend to push things to extremes.
