Stay the Heck Off the Streets!

Happy New Year to all my fellow commuters! Remember, tonight keep your bikes in your apartments and stay the heck off the streets - it's amateur night in "Alcohol Land"!! I don't want to read any obituaries tomorrow concerning bicyclists killed by drunk drivers. Have an outstanding 2012 and may you have no punctures and the wind at your backs all year!

Not a problem here, my commuters are here beside me, and not about to venture out until morning light.

Stay off the roads on New Year's too. There are still drunk people out on the road. A fellow graduate student lost her pregnant sister and almost died herself in an accident on New Year's morning around 10 am.

Let's all hope for a safe and accident free 2012.

Got off work and rode home a 3:30 last night. I had my concerns and of course there were more taxis and cars on the road than a normal Sat. night. Kept a close eye on the non-taxis that were still on the road and kept my distance from the pedestrians and few people on bikes who usually are not out on any other Sat. I may not have ridden if I thought I was getting off between 1:00 and 2:30.

Drunkenly rode my bike home from a friends house about 20 blocks away at about 5AM. Had the road to ourselves! (my girlfriend and I)
We rode over there a little after 9PM, traffic was okay then.

Not smart. Statistically, you are in more danger riding your bike drunk, or even walking drunk, than driving. The difference is that you don't involve as many others riding or walking contrasted to driving. If yer drunk, get a cab!

Overhead people at work talking about getting trashed at New Year's eve. Made sure I stayed put.
The commute to work today (New Year's day) was fine. Beautiful weather and quiet. Happy New Year to you.

Rode home right as the bars were letting out after nursing two pints of beer for 3 hours, but I only had a few blocks of old town traffic to deal with. The drunk pedestrians seemed hypnotized by my bike lights and several just stopped in the the middle of the road. That they were jay walking across. But no close calls and the new years eve ride along the river trail was excellent.

I normally end up riding on New Years Eve, but didn't this time. There was a basketball game that my date and I watched from a sports bar (I'm not even a sports fan), and we were drunk and tired by the time the game ended. After getting back to her house, we slept until about 11:30pm, then woke up to "ring in the new year".

I had a non-bike holiday. It was a nice change of pace. I was back on the bike today to go to work. Almost no traffic downtown. Very few people are working today.
