Poll on polls
I think polls suck. They mean nothing and signify nothing. Do you agree?

Every lane is a bike lane
How about a "depends on the poll" option?

I'd line up to see that - if it wasn't poll-vaulting.

Best answer would be polls suck , but might be useful...
Public opinion need be known when it concerns public matters, being that representative democracy might not be representative, since it is corrupted by money.
Polls are manipulated by those commissioning those polls...Polls should be constructed by knowledgeable academics wanting a true measurement of public opinion. Not those asking it in a manner attempting to bring about their chosen result.

Polls here can give an idea about what cyclists think about issues, but they are by no means a definitive way to understanding. They are just 1 peice of the puzzle that has to be looked at carefully in order to try to understand an issue.

Polls are only as usefull as they are designed to be. I find that the vast majority of polls on these forums are poorly designed. This means that while they may provide some information that can stimulate thought, they do not provide enough to draw conclusions from. Of course poll design is an art and the design of a poll can allow for a bias or an attempts can be made to make it fair. On these forums I find neither case, I find that they are typically not well thought out.
So I voted "they might suck' or however that option was phrased.

Polling is a science that can accurately measure almost anything at a given moment , should those commissioning the poll want public opinion and not want to mold public opinion..
Marketing and polling are used hand in hand as a tool of advertising to get you to think what they want you to think.
Whether it is Mountain bikes, tooth paste , or the president.
As to the merits of polling..It works..Either in finding a market for a product setting up an ad campaign to get you to do something..Polls are scientific and it unfortunately leads one to believe that too many people are like sheep.
There is a reason , next to my 'share the road' bumper sticker is a sticker saying "Kill Your TV."
