At almost 50, I'm commuting for the first time ever tomorrow. My daughter is picking me up from work, and we're getting out of town for two days. It will be a one time- one way ride, but it's a start. I need a shower installed in my bathroom at work, but tomorrow I'll do the sponge bath thing. I can't rely on that regularly since it's already hot here in South Florida. I hope to have the shower installed by midsummer. Then I'll commute 3 of 5 days a week.

checking in, did my first commute today! i took some sports towels (quick drying) and no-rinse body wash, washed off in restroom before changing clothes. used a small fan for about 20 min to cool off and all was good. had a couple mess ups in the morning, but 16 miles (8 each way) done! it wasn't muscle trying, but man am i drained tonight!

I've been riding intermittently due to bad weather. I rode today but didn't expect it to be so windy. The occasional gusts put me in danger's way but thank God no car passing on the side I was blown to.

Well I did it this morning, and it went well. I did the sponge bath thing twice before everyone got there. I enjoyed it and look forward to doing it again.

I rode to work from a halfway point yesterday, and boy it was nice. Here in CT we just had snow on Friday so everything is still crappy but it's getting better. I used to commute everyday but have been off the bike for 1.5 years due to personal/life stress but I'm back! Now all I have to do is get more fit and quit smoking...

so last week was the biggest tease ever!
was able to commute monday through thursday. the roads had finally de-iced enough to make it safe. then i woke up friday, looked out the window, and a string of vulgar words came pouring out my mouth......... we got a big dump of snow and now 'second winter' is upon us here in Edmonton, Alberta. dagnabit!
i'm hoping the warm temps we have forecasted for later this week get rid of this snow right quick, and real spring happens and i can get back to zoom zooming. i feel like a grounded kid who's done nothing wrong to merit the punishment right about now, lol.

Be very careful! Bike commuting it very additive and can lead you to do crazy things! Proof: Me biking to work on Jan 5 at -15F:
I started bike-commuting to college in the late 80s. Took a number of years off when our daughter was born. Got back to it slowly around 2005 with only the sunny days a couple times a summer. By 2009, I bought a new commuter-bike and was biking most days in the summer. Then around 2011 I made the plunge into winter-biking. Now I bike to work nearly every day, only exceptions are for logistics (need a car to haul stuff or get somewhere far away) and for ice - Ice is no problem for me and my bike, but the cars I share the road with, they have a hard time keeping in control on the ice.
My office has no showers, I use a store room as a locker room, and air-out my bike gear on a hook behind my office door. My co-workers still like to tell me I'm nuts, but generally accept that I'm gonna bike to work.
There are many 'reasons' to bike (save money, healthier, save environment, etc), but the top reason is FUN!
