Tire clearence - Masi vs. Surly
I'm going to be going on a supported trip through India in the new year so I'm working out what frame to build on for myself and my wife's rides.
A major consideration is tire/fender clearance - I'm planning on running the 40c Schwalbe Marathon Extremes with fenders. I've owned a Cross-Check before and liked it, and Surly says that it has room for 45's with fenders so I'm leaning in that direction.
I'm curious about the steel Masi CX frames as well - does anyone know if you can fit big tires with fenders on these frames? The 2011 SS version comes with 45's so I'm curious if anyone has tried the big tire/fender combo on these frames.

I have a Bianchi San Jose so most CX bikes should take monstercross tires. Its not CX legal but if you're not racing, who cares. I have Continental City Contact 42mm outfitted on mine.

You would have no problem fitting a 45c tire on the back of the Masi CX. You would not get it on the front, the fork is too short. You would be able to get a 35c with fender. I'll try and get a photo of the front end of my Masi posted. The fork on the 2011 SSCX is different than the fork on the geared CX.
