Did I get a good deal and good bike?

Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Did I get a good deal and good bike?

Did I get a good deal and good bike?

I got a Ridley X bow with tiagra for 1160 out the door. I get lifetime tune ups and a professional fitting included. It weighs 21.6 pounds. lighter than I expected. Tiagra is pretty reliable from what Ive seen and heard and by experience. Not the lightest though. The wheels are... meh... But Im stoked about it! I kinda bought off impulse and didnt search to see if it was a good deal. Im on the team so I got a bit of a discount. Did I get a good deal?

I think it'll be a great bike for you. "Meh" wheels are OK because you probably want a second set anyway.

I raced three seasons on a Kona Jake and was never unhappy with it. I upgraded the components as I had funds but to this day I love that bike. The X-Bow that you got may be Ridley's least great CX frame, but of their CX frames that one is probably the best as an all-around bike. Plus it's a Ridley, and just as my bottom-of-the-line Kona was still pretty good CX bike, I expect you'll discover that about your Ridley and then some.

I'm all for buying from a local shop, but that wasn't what you asked.

If you want to build a better relationship with the owner of your local shop, stop beating around the bush and ask him out for dinner and a movie.

Pretty sure I asked if I got a good deal. Sure there are better deals out there and I know it but I didnt want to be hosed. The tuneups add a considerable amount of value. Around $100 a year. I have no clue how much a pro fitting is because not many shops around me offer it but the fit is the most important thing about the bike. I also asked if I got a good bike. I know there are better bikes out there. But I've always used shimano with great luck and dont intend to stop anytime soon.

It's not horrible. Just because there are better deals doesn't mean you got a bad deal. You did not get hosed. Not by a long shot.

9 times out of 10 when someone (neurotically, irrationally) posts a "Hey I just bought this, did I get a good deal?!?!?!?" thread, I just chuckle and shake my head. Since I had recently looked into the Ridley deal at Competitive, though, I thought I'd help out this time.
