SSCXWC 10 Info Needed
Ok Seattle folks,
I'm registered for the SSCXWC in Seattle this year. I'm driving up from CA for this and I need a little info about the course. The race will be run in conjunction with the MFG Cross series race at SIR off of HWY 18. What I need to know is how muddy this place can get and what gearing should I shoot for. I usually run a larger gear in CA due to the dry flatter courses (42x17). I'm guessing that I will something closer to a 39x18 for this but some intel would be handy.
If anyone wants to meet up that would be cool too. I'm doing this one solo.

Blasphemy!
Cynikal:
42/18 and 40/18 seem to be pretty popular around here.
I've raced down there once but I have no idea what the course design will be like for the SSCXWC. I trust the MFG guys to make it interesting. It's a big area with varied terrain and I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to find myself both under- and over-geared.
...I'm just wondering if I have enough time to grow a worthy mustache.

Here in 'burbs of Seattle's less-attractive step-sister city (Portland) it doesn't really start raining every day until November, and it looks like Seattle is similar. I have to regard the early date as a failure on the part of the planners. There won't be half the slop there was at PIR last year. It'll still be muddy, of course, but probably not absurdly muddy.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that I lived in Seattle for 13 years so I know the climate. I just don't know anything about racing there or the course at SIR. I moved away 15 years ago.

Bump! Now I have a ton of info about the weekend. Is anyone here racing this? Anyone want to grab a beer? Looking forward to the muddy punishment.

Ill be there for the earlier races in the day.... part of one of the series. not sure if its MFG or Seattle Cyclocross.
Blue Roosters... there are a few of us... seems like everyone on the team wants to participate in the SS event, so there will be a lot of local racers that dont always do SS I think.
My first cross season, but generally the courses are different every year depending on the weather. we had a wet one last week that was a swampfest. utterly horrific. Last year it was dry and people talked about how 'fast' and 'roadie' friendly it was. Tommorrow is looking dry. SSWCX, who knows.

Just finished converting my Poprad to SS last night! 39x18 (It's what I had). I was hoping it was the "magic gear" but unfortunately had to put a tensioner on it (Origin brand). Working OK so far, though I need to test it more on some rough and tumble stuff.
It's supposed to be wet and wild this weekend. Woohoo!
Also, does anyone know if the diameter is the same between Shimano and Campy cassette freehubs? If I have spacers without the specific little teeth for the spline, can I just slide them onto either? Just wondering if I need to stop by the shop on the way home or if I can just slide the non-toothed "Shimano" spacers on my Campy hub.
See you fellas this weekend.
