Hi I just bought a Schwinn AL1020 Folding E Bike today (May 26,2013) I've read most of the posts and was wondering if The 7 or PMD283 if they or and one that has done mods to AL1020 give a update on what word and did not work for the long haul. Also is there any way to add a bike tire generator 12V to replenish power to battery as you go?

Sigh - once again another thread with someone trying to make a perpetual motion machine out of an e-bike by adding a generator to the other wheel. Good grief - here we go again.

Here is the problem with adding a generator. No generator is 100% efficient, so it takes more energy to turn the generator than it will put into your battery. Since you will be the one turning the generator all it will do is make your bike harder to pedal and add nothing in return.

Thanks for your input. Mostly I wanted anyone that had made mods to there Schwinn AL1020 share info on the long term effects, if any. Like boosting to 36 Volt or 48 Volt.

PS I know a generator would not replenish the battery so I would never have to peddle just was there any worth while benefits.

Having a generator or re-gen ability motor can be of some benefit for extending your batteries range. I know on my BionX if I use the re-gen when feasible I can extend my range by an easy 10 to 15%... Trying to use it to extend the range more becomes hard work, and not worth it, that's for sure... Sorry, a bit off topic

Regenerative braking does make sense. You don't need a separate generator to do it though, any direct drive hub-motor can do it with the right controller. But you do need to use a direct drive hub-motor to have that feature available to you.
