Taiwan / Swiss quality, much safer to ride & charge , more durable, less headaches in the long run. More fun to ride, less repairs, better customer service, better engineering , cheaper in the long run, appreciation for quality, just a start the list goes on.
Prodeco may be a fair bike, but most are entry level bikes that dont compare to Stromer.
I hated my Prodeco sold it @ a loss within a month of ownership { it was a Storm an entry level model **,My MiPowers been a gem, Stromer maybe even better, you get what you pay for, with E-Bikes if your serious about commuting & or putting a lot of miles on one expect to pay more then a grand for good quality.

I agree with Scaliboy62 "You get what you pay for". Take a look at the Specialized Turbo. Top of the line.

Scaliboy is exactely spot on,
it could not be said better!
I was in exact situation as yours years ago when I was researching for ebike.
Went to Wallmart , Canadian Tire, try 2 "ebike" China brand ebikes, before paying for them I made sure I can return them, of course I returned both.
Went to ebike dealer tried EPLUS , Kalkhof and others over 3000 dollars ebikes and difference to dep. store crap was like day and night.
You can get from A to B on dept. store ebike but for how long and your hand will not be clean, because of constant tweeking, repairing, adjusting, replacing worn out parts, listenening to noise , grinding, jerking, humming.
Why not to put this $500 toward quality ebike.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
After I finished installing my EPLUS kit with all that components on BIRIA frame I spent between $3000-$3500.
You simply cannot own ebike, quality one for less than $2000.
Also it depends what you want to use ebike for:
- couple of rides a summer, for fun
or
- on other end putting 1000s of miles a year, commuting to work, shopping - you need real ebike not China crap.

My 2 pre ST1 have been worse than terrible, I cannot bring myself to but the new Platinum I want. I have had maybe 10 motors or more(more!) between the 2. My wife's bike has been out of service about 3 months, shop says it has quit dealing w/Stromer and no longer sells them, bike still there! The 2 local shops that were selling them which I have dealt with are shops I wont buy trash from. I cannot be sure which is worse, probably local bike shops, hard to tell whose $hit stinks worse.

My cheap Chinese EBay bike has been so much more reliable but not as much fun to ride. I am looking at battery in frame bike(on Endless spheres) w/Falco motor on it. Falco is pretty near my house and on the trail I ride the most. It is even more stealth than Stromer which is may favorite selling point.

Other may have done better. Great shop in Philadelphia, PHEW for service, GREAT! but after doing 4 round trips on less than 2 months gets costly and a waste of Sat when I should be riding.

My wife wants to add here but I dont think it is a good idea.....That said when it works, best riding of the ones I have ridden, good luck!

I am not sure why you want to tell me i have not had this issue. I am not a troll, I have bought the bikes, you have not. I have kept pretty quiet over the years hoping hoping they would have followed up on their promises. They have not. I have dealt w/Brett M and Steve M directly when Brett, worked for Legacy E Ride out of South Carolina before BMC bought Stromer. I was on their 800 number on Friday (yesterday) discussing the full reset on my bike. I used to be on their main board Swiss version in German till they changed the rules .

If you think I am troll maybe you should ask question before you look down on me and act as judge, jury and executioner. It possible this is the truth and Ihave had these issues.

I have my original bike over 3 years. It has worked correctly for at least 6 months of that time, how would you feel? I ride at least 5 days a week.

Her bike was purchased from Evolve Bikes in Celebration Florida while on vacation, shipped there just for our purchase by Brett, they had just came out w/the LCD display to replace the LED which I had on my bike. I purchased the an LCD for mine while there.

I don't mind being accused of a troll under the circumstances but someone shouldn't be such and ASS to say I am definitely one w/o questions is pretty damn pompous. If I being truthful it is something to think about...but why would you think , you know everything. My favorite post of yours was how Ebkes were the best method to get around after the storm knocked out power to the whole island for DAYS... yes you know everything maybe including that I have a generator for use but I realized if no gas is available the generator then an ebike is useless.

I will not respond to you an more about my bikes ..my Chinese cheepo is one of the EKO bikes purchased on ebay affectionately known "the jalopy"

I will not speak of the local shops, especially till I get her bike back broken or repaired

Few things I want to point out to the valuable responses:

*Stromer is NOT made in Sweden. It is made in China ..just like all the other e-bikes

*Specialized turbo has a 250W motor, how is this top of the line? It is more expensive than the Stromer at $6000

*I have read reviews of Stromer's being unreliable on many sites.

Please advise as to what are some things I should look for before buying an e-bike. I am going to be using for a daily commute.
Which frame type? what motor? what kind of brakes? which groupset/gears?

My experience based on above is find the best local bike shop available. I was give a loaner bike for an extended time by PHEW and I had not even purchased the bikes from them, very impressed. If I end up buying a premade ebike i will drive there and purchase 1 that they sell. This coming form N Va. to Philly. Check w/your seller and see what they want to sell you after expressing reliability is one of your primary concerns. More 45 kph/28 mph bikes are coming out in 2014. I would like to go a little faster than what I currently do w/my older Stromer and would like to keep up speed on up hills also.

Mark

PS I beleive Stromer is moving/moved assembly to Europe (Germany??)

Bikeluva the Speicalized Turbo is top of the line because of its components and engeneering. The 250 watt motor does not seem to hold it down much. As I wrote in my brief review of my ride. It is fairly effortless to take the bike up to 27 mph. Nobody has yet to sugggest to you a Bionx kit. You could buy the bicycle of your choice and for another $2000 add the Bionx 48 volt system.

Either way you keep asking for feedback and then shooting everybody down. If you don't like what is on the electric bike market look for a different solution.

I havent shot anyone down, just questioned your outrageous claim of "Specialized Turbo. Top of the line."

I bought a Prodeco Outlaw SS because I wanted car-free scooter convenience at the same time pretending to be a bicycle..and not some dorky gas powered scooter. No problems after nearly 9 thousand lazy ass (pretending to pedal) miles. I'm the 1% that got lucky but apparently the other 99% who bought Prodeco bikes ended up with junk, got cursed out by the company, flamed in emails and bottom line.. ripped off. I didn't get a discount on the thing nor do I get any additional perks so I'm not going any further to promote that company. I'm not a fanboy and it's my first electric bike. Being I'm athletic, for the last 30 years I've owned cool nonelectric bikes ranging from Peugeot Px10's, Colnago's, USA Cannondales, Specialized to Chicago Shwinn's, Panasonics, Fuji's and big box store winter beaters and have done dozens of cycling related events and more than two dozen century rides and have lived car-free with a bicycle being my only mode of transportation. All Non-electric. I'm more of a cyclist then electrical engineer so I can't comment on any specific detailed "statistics" like those Hosers on Endless Sphere. From what I can see in relation to the current state of general public electric bicycling, everything burns out.. goes clunkety clunk.. or runs just fine for a million miles depending on what your dice land on when you roll them making a purchase.

Last I checked the stickers on the bikes at my local Trek dealership in regards to where the freaking bikes were made, anything $1500 and under was "Made In China".

This is at a real down home "BIKE SHOP". Brand Name TREK's..non electric made in China! (Chinese Junk as some have stated)

Why should you pay more for a Stromer? You shouldn't... you should pay less. Buy one at discount if you want one.. but by all means.. do not pay more!

Please allow me to continue my "lies" on the board. Yesterday I was told that we will be receiving 2 new Stromers to replace the troubled units we have had...they will be serviced by a new to Stromer but not new to BMC dealer Cycle Life who I believe has done a lot for us in the background. We brought over the bike that was in the shop for 3 months and they thought this was the best way to go , so do we! check back in a week!

Received the new bikes!!! finally got to ride! 40 miles on 1 battery while kept speed under control, I was getting close to 20 on old bike w/smaller battery . Certainly quicker and about the same torque as my old "slow" version so we are good there. Mild complaints so far doesn't hold a standard rack, need to carry extra batteries to ride longer!! their kit is expensive w/the rack but may go for it anyway, times 2 for her bike also. The other complaint is personal...I dont like the look of the tires. I want a stealth Ebike. I think the tires look non standard and could get a person of interest to do a 2nd take in general and then explore the look even more. I have read and agree that when coasting the bike is very loud w/the noise the gears make

It is great that it works correctly!! and it came form a great shop, so professional!
