I have one of those fabric lawn chairs that pack up into a long roll, sort of like a yoga mat but longer. And with a new 60-acre park being built near me, I have visions of hauling it with me to relax. Any ideas how I might attach it to my Electra Townie Go? I'm not sure if strapping it to my rear rack sideways would get me knocked over, if a car passes a little too closely, and I just don't know if it's safe to have it stick longways out behind me. Also which was would be best for stability? I think it might be too long to strap to either bar (ladies' bike) and interfere with the pedals.

What are the rolled dimensions? What does it weigh? Can you lash it vertically to a rear rack with the bottom roughly at the height of the hub? I have done this with the folding camping chairs that fit into a cylindrical bag to ride to music festivals.

Strapping it across the rack scares me. Cars will not expect you to be that wide and you may well forget also. Going vertical might get you when you swing your foot to dismount; embarrassing but not life threatening.

It's a Renetto canopy chair. I can't find the specs on their site but from a different one: Carry Size = 37" x 7.75" x 7.75" Weight = 12.5 Lbs

I think it would be awkward to use the backpack straps to ride with it on my back. Maybe I can rig it up somewhat vertically. I've never ridden with something strapped to one side, how unstable will 12lbs to the side make me? Should I put it on the side I mount from or the opposite?

Yes, you would have to ride with the chair vertically on your back. If you want to use the left or right rear pannier to carry it then I'd put it on the side depending on whether you're right or left handed. Also, you could use it to counter the effects of a heavy wind if the wind is strong on the day you ride.

If the ride isn't long I would use a backpack and ride with it vertically; only you'll need to prevent the top zippers of the backpack from opening up as you ride.

7.5"x7.5" should work fine on your rack and should be thinner than your handlebars are wide. The weight seems to me to be negligible and probably wouldn't be a big deal on either side.

Thanks everyone! The park itself will only be about a half mile away but I don't know where they will put the entrance (i.e. if I have to go around the park it could make my ride longer), and there are supposed to be walking and riding paths through it.

christo, the 7.5x7.5 is because it rolls into a rectangle, not a circle. It's 37" tall which means laid sideways across the rack it would be wider than handlebars, which Google seems to say are 22"-26" wide.
