Have flat aero style dropbars and no real estate for Light, Garmin and Sony cam

My ergonomic flat top drop bars fit my hands and are comfortable to ride for long distances. Unfortunately there is no real estate for mounting accessories on this type of handbar, or the ones I have been using for the last 4 years.

There is a small space that lets me jam a narrow CNC clamp up tight against either side of the stem, but no room for three as the handlebars have a limited round section only for the stem. to solve the problem I ordered an alloy dual CNC clamp arangement with a plastic bar, not really paying enough attention to the plastic bar's 22.2 mm diameter.

My Sony cam mount is 31.8, my Garmon forward mount is 31.8, and my 600 lumen light is 31.8.

Now I am in the glue, as using an inter-tube to fill the gap it ends up looking like a child's effort and my Sony Cam moves about , movies look horrid, the light also move about and has become dangerous on the poor pavement I must ride.

I need 31.8 to 31.8 narrow CNC clamps instead of the nicely finished "Glub G-559" unit I ordered that has a 31.8 to 22.2 mm CNC Clamp and 22.2 plastic bar. For the price the unit i ordered is sweet looking does not weigh much, but 22.2 is the wrong size for my 31.8 mount needs.

Is there another manufacture that make a similar product for 31.8 mount needs. I wrote to Glub and they provided a 18 hour answer, they do not currently manufacture a 31.8 to 31.8 size.

"Dear Namida,

Thanks for your support of our GUB bike!
For the moment all of our handlebar extender are all 31.8 to 22.2 size, have not 31.8 tube yet.
Will inform you once we have other size for sale of this item in the future, thanks again!
Have a nice weekend!

I've used one of these.
Carbon Fiber Computer Light Mount 31 8 25 4 26 0 Bar Handlebar Extra Space | eBay

Cheap, lightweight, and seems reasonably secure.

But, I see your issue with the diameter.

One option might be to install a cheap rubber BMX style handlebar grip on it. You might not get the full 31.8mm, but it would be close, and the material might be grippy enough for some mounts to work. Or, it could be shimmed further.

You can try using automotive rubber hose that can be purchased at any auto parts store. Get the closest thing they have to the diameter of your bars, trim it to fit the width of the mount and cut it in half, if need be, to shim the mount. I've done this on my hybrid bike for mounts that don't have reducing shims. Works well and doesn't look cheap.

CliffordK and John_V,

This is what I ordered & Recieved
Bike Handle Bar Extender Double Mount Lamp Bracket Holder Bar Extender Mount | eBay <--difficult if not impossible to locate modern device that mount @ 22.2 diameter. How and where they got the demo device mounts in 22.2 is beyond my search skills. I did miss the less expensive forward bar...
Bike Handlebar Carbon Extender Handle Bar Mount Stand Holder Phone GPS Lights | eBay

The Diameter of 22.2 is wrong or for old vintage bicycles, in my opinion this forward bar should be 31.8 mm to 31.8 mm clamps and have a carbon or alloy tube of 31.8. That said John_V's suggestion a bit automotive Rubber hose might do the trick. Believe that would have enough compression strength to stop a light angling down every bump. Also not let the Sony Cam vibrate to ruin the movies while I ride.

The saga continues because I can not locate a 31.8 to 31.8 forward bar setup instead of 22.2.

I think the problem is that they measured the outer section of the bars which they've tried to replicate. Is that close to the 22.2?

Why is the center area of the bars raised? Perhaps to help get the curves through clamps that only partially open. Expensive bars usually had a few inches raised up. Cheaper ones, less.

No doubt that devices designed to be near the hands, such as bells would fit better on the smaller bars. But, as you've found devices for road bars are probably already sized either 26.0 or 31.8, with the more modern ones being 31.8. So much for far east engineering.

Fouriers make a video mount with shim for 22.2.
My experience is that "Out Front" style mounts are good for GPS/computer/lights but they vibrate and make video look extremely poor. This is based on my experience with GoPro out front mount using a thick rubber shim that comes with the unit to fit 26mm clamp surface.

Fouriers also make a computer/GPS mount specifically for 22.2. It is aimed at the triathlon market which still uses 22.2 tubing for arm rests.
I have no direct experience with any Fouriers product.

I'd look into the Minoura mounts - e.g. Minoura Japan ? SG-400

Minoura makes nice products if weight isn't an issue. They tend to be heavy.
