bike computer installation help

I recently got a bike computer, and installed it, but Im wondering if it is correctly installed. where should the magnet go on the spoke? should it be all the way to the wheel rim? or does it not matter? it seems that, depending on there the magnet is placed, the speed would be completely different. any information is appreciated, thanks

The limiting factor wrt sensor:magnet location is distance between the two -- 3mm seems to be the maximum gap, before the stationary sensor "misses" the moving magnet's pass. On my Trek 600, I can place the pair anywhere in the lower-third of the fork, without any problems. Also, make sure to align the face of the magnet with that of the sensor, in order to maximize their interaction.

The sensor is simply measuring RPM, and the computer is multiplying this by the circumference of your wheel to calculate speed and distance. As was mentioned above, find the best distance based on what gives you a good gap as recommended by the instructions.

Ok, I get it now. I was confused about the whole math part, never was my favorite subject.

I install my magnet where the spokes cross. so it's mounted on 2 spokes and it winds up being angled but works just fine. I adjust the sensor so it is as close as possible without being hit by the magnet as the wheel rotates

If it's wireless, you want to mount it as high as feasible on the fork. I've never mounted one as low as the spoke crosses.

I just installed a cateye strada wirless and wonder if anyone mounted the sensing unit on the front side of the fork instead of the back as they instruct. My comcern is if it gets bumped at all the sensor will be driven into the on coming spokes. If it is mounted on the front side it would cause less damage to the spokes. Will it still function mounted on the front side
