A discovery about the Garmin Oregon 450 GPS
I have been using my Garmin Oregon 450 as a cycle computer for the last 4-5 months. I have the cadence sensor on both of my bikes, and have the heart rare monitor, though I don't normally use it.
I normally download the track after each ride on my XP machine to Garmin Connect using the device download plug-in. Today, I did the download with my ubuntu (linux) machine that doesn't support that plugin, so I did the download manually.
With the garmin plugin, all that I get is the gps information (track) for the ride. Which is one reason, I don't normally use the heart rate monitor. Today, however, when I used the manual download I noticed that it seemed to pick up at least some of the cadence information--it reported maximum, and minimum cadences for the ride... I will have to remember to wear my heart rate sensor on my next ride and see if that data gets recorded as well...

Garmin's device specific uploader apparently chooses to remove that information from the files it downloads... Guess they just wanted to provide a little incentive to purchase a bike specific device...

I knew that those functions were supported for display, but didn't think they were recorded with the track information. Since that information never showed up on my Garmin connect when I used there device specific plugin for downloading the track..

I have the Oregon 550 and while you can see the data while riding, it does not give you recorded info when you upload to the garmin site.. Don't know if there is an update for the gps or the garmin site is now supporting the data upload info.. I will have to check and see if this works with mine.

I too do not receive the uploaded info from the garmin site, when I use their device extension to do the upload. However, if you upload the gpx file manually it does show the cadence and heart rate information. Further I looked at the gpx (its just an xml file) and noticed that it contains the heart and cadence information with each record from the gps... Information the normal Garmin site is not using, but that is clearly there. You can trick the garmin site into using it if you manually upload your tracks...
