I just bought an Edge 500. On initial set up everything locked in and the cadence was working correctly. On my first ride about 5 or 10 minutes into the ride the cadence quit working. This was the first ride after a very wet ride. I took the cadence sensor apart as much as possible and tried to dry it out and replaced the battery but I can't get it to pair to the Edge.

I keep going to the ANT+ Speed/Cad menu item, click the little white button on the cadence sensor and spin the crank and the green and red lights blink when the crank and wheel go around. I do this until the lights quit blinking. I then do a rescan and turn the crank for quite a while and it never pairs.

Is my cadence sensor cooked?

Start with the simple stuff: is the magnet close enough to the sensor in all relevant axes?

Yes. The light blinks brightly every time the pedal goes by and when the wheel magnet goes by.

To dry out wet electronics like this, I open any covers and leave the device in a warm place overnight. Anyplace that's not so hot you can't keep your hand on it. I've used the top of a hot water radiator, on the heating furnace, on a water heater, over or beneath an incandescent lamp, etc...

Another option is to flush it out with 91% or better isopropyl alcohol and then dry it over low heat. May seem weird but electronic circuit boards are routinely washed distilled water and/or alchohol during production.

Last night I placed the unit on the register in my house. When I tried to pair the unit to my Garmin Edge 500 today, it locked right on to the signal. I rode 2 hours tonight and it worked like a champ.
