Garmin Etrex
I have a Garmin Etrex software version 2.1.4 from 2002 (It's the model that was part of the Marlboro miles program).
There's a serial cable you can buy/make (I'll make mine), but I wanted to find out what data it stores.
Like can I download the data from it, superimpose the path on a map, click that spot and have it tell me how fast I was going at that particular moment, along with time and date?
I know there is some free software that you can download to use with the cable, but does the cable really give you any worthwhile information? What exactly is stored and what exactly are you downloading?
Chris

The base maps in the older Garmin handheld units don't have topo or street-level detail.
On my eTrex Vista, I purchased the US City Navigator CD and would bring in new detailed maps based on the region in the US I needed, via the serial cable.
But I never downloaded any info to analyze, so I can't help with that part of your question.
Google for Garmin forums for detailed info about your unit and capabilities... there is plenty of info out there.
