Question Android app with offline maps + POIs + GPX?

Hello

When I travel, I currently use OpenStreeBased-based MapsWithMe Pro because it supports offline maps (great and fast when travelling in areas without Internet connections) and points of interests (that can be added either by importing a KML file or adding them directly in the app).

However, it cannot load GPX files to show a route.

Does someone know of a good application that supports those three features?

Thank you.

This one ( OsmAnd ) I think does all that you want. I haven't tried it yet to know how it works but does offer off-line mapping, POI and route mapping from what I've read. The "pay version" is $6.99

Thanks. I just tried it, but found it too complicated compared to MapsWithMe. I'll see if I can find something else.

You can convert gpx files to kml files here:

https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/

I talked to the "mapswithme" people about being able to use gpx files. They said they were planning (or considering) adding it.

Thanks. I read the FAQ, but didn't find how to get the KML file back. All it does is display the trace on top of Google Maps and allow users to download the HTML page:

I also sent that suggestion, along with others gathered through a two-week trip. MwM is very handy when travelling with no Internet connection.

Use this link at that site (it's an interface to gpsbabel).

Yes, it's quite handy. I also used "pocketearth" (maybe, iPhone only).

What other suggestions did you make?

GpsLabel requires indicating Input/Output File Format + WTR, but I don't know what this is. I'll look into that later.

Suggestions: https://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=c95BX3ZL

W/T/R indicates what sort of data the file contains. W: waypoints; T: tracks; R: routes.

The iPhone version has this (uses pinch/spread to zoom in/out).

Google Maps supports that feature, and I find it pretty convenient when holding the phone in my right hand while riding the bike.

Anyway, as for MwM + KML:
Unfortunately we currently do not support track import function, but it's in our long-term plans.
So if your imported kml file contains the route from point A to point B, only these 2 points are supposed to be displayed on the map.
The search goes on...

OruxMaps supports KML, KMZ, and GPX formats. Several maps to choose from including OpenStreetMaps.

It's free.

I still haven't found a good application that runs on Android, uses offline maps (required when no data connection is available), and does the job without bells and whistles.
  • OsmAnd: 1) The OSM MapNik view is harder to read that MapQuest, and 2) it keeps forgetting the route after switching to another app
  • OruxMaps: Couldn't figure out how to load a map for where I live. It just loads the World map and stops zooming in too early. Selecting Online > OSM doesn't work.

I'm searching myself for some thing compatible with Stravas route builder.

I'm yet to find some thing worthwhile it's a shame google maps has become such a closed app as I find that I miss features from that such as "Navigation" in other apps.

Hell I wish Strava would just send my routes to my device.
