Rode with a 90 year old woman today.
I went to the start of a semi-organized group ride but, due to the hot weather, only the two of us showed up. We rode the 24 mile route together. I certainly had a good time and was glad that I came. I hope that she feels the same way.

24 miles and 90 years old God bless her, and you too for keeping her company.
I have two neighbors I ride with when I see them out husband and wife both in their 90’s they don’t venture far from town any longer and avoid routes with hills of any major size but they too are still going strong.

She's actually 91 and part of the St. Louis Recreational Cyclists. She has a 90 year old boyfriend so don't get any ideas. Check out the STLRC website for ride schedules.

Here's another funny part of the story. The battery on Billy's Honda was dead so she had driven to the ride in Alan's Prius. After finishing the ride the two of us had all kinds of trouble figuring out how to open the back hatch and how to get the damn thing in gear so she that could drive home. I told her that I'm pretty good with things that have chains and sprockets. Electronics, not so much.

I think we both may be members of the STLRC brother. Another funny car electronic story - Riding with some group members from Columbia, IL to St. Genevieve for an overnight trip. The ladies driving our SAG car, a Subaru Outback, set the parking brake after getting on the ferry for the ride across the Mississippi River. Got to the other side, all of the riders rode off but the car never moved. A few of us went back to see what was wrong. The parking brake on the Subaru is electronic and wouldn't come off. Everyone was on their smartphones calling for advice. The ferry guys were freaking out because nothing could come or go while the car was stalled. Finally I suggested we disconnect the battery and see if it reboots. We did, the brake came off, and off they went. Electronics are fine but not for parking brakes!!!

It was a Serotta - steel I think, with a triple crankset and mid level components. For what it's worth, I'm riding a recumbent tricycle these days.

I started riding it because, ove the last 6 years or so I've had too many falls, some involving concussions or broken bones. I found those experiences to be undesirable so I decided to do something about it.
Now that I've had a few hundred miles with the recumbent trike I'm kicking myself for not having gotten one a lot sooner.

There is a woman 80+ who rides her daughter's 1966 Schwinn 3-speed on Bike Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway north of NYC. We see her doing laps on this ride. We see her riding the bike trails above and below the 7.3 mile stretch of parkway closed off from cars for cyclists. She flies. She is one of the fastest riders out. On a Schwinn 3-speed! She wears long blue jeans for Pete's sake! Put this woman on a CF road bike and enter her in the Tour de France! It's incredible! It's motivating!
